WOUNDBADGES #24920 Silver Wound Badge with Titled Packet

The packet of this Silver Wound Badge example is the off-white manila type. It shows some age and wear, but there are no tears or any problems.

The packet is titled Berwundeten-/Abzeichen/Silber. This, of course, translates to Silver Wound Badge. There is also old ink writing on the upper portion of the badge indicating it is a Silver Wound example. This was done probably years ago, but since it is in English, must have been done by a collector.

The badge itself is the solid zinc type. It still has silvering which covers about 2/3's of the outer border, and it is also evident on the raised-out swastika as well as on the grips of both of the swords. This silvering rates at about 30% to 40% . The badge consists of an oval wreath bordered by overlapping oak leaves. The center area is pebbled and depicts a raised-out helmet with super-imposed swastika positioned over crossed swords. The reverse has a plain pin which still reflects the silvering.

WOUNDBADGES #42094C Cloth Silver Wound Badge

The cloth version of the Silver Wound Badge was made late in the war when it was getting difficult to produce metals by the factories due to war shortages.

This cloth version appears to be unissued, featuring a white square cotton material with green circle having the image of the badge printed on the green. The image is very precise depicting the oval design with overlapping laurel leaves and a swastika emblazoned helmet superimposed over crossed swords.

Along with the badge is a picture of the veteran who brought it home being Sergeant John D. Frandsen. He was a member of a medical battalion. There is also a picture of the items Sergeant Frandsen brought home and the cloth silver Wound Badge version is included in the picture. What happened to the other items in the picture I do not know.

A fairly difficult to find medal here.
