The War Merit Cross (German: Kriegsverdienstkreuz) was a decoration of Nazi Germany during the Second World War, which could be awarded to civilians as well as military personnel. It was reissued in 1957 by the Bundeswehr in a De-Nazified version for veterans. The War Merit Medal (German: Kriegsverdienstmedaille) was instituted on 19 August 1940 to recognize outstanding service by civilians in connection with the war effort. The medal was restricted to civilians and was awarded predominantly to those working in war factories.

WARMERIT #45467C Cased 1st Class War Merit Cross

The case of this example has good black leatherette covering with a silver image of the medal embossed on the lid. The leatherette shows a little bit of mild wear around the edges but is not bad at all. The inside lids of the case features padded satin. The lower portion has a black velvet base with a slot to accommodate the medal.

The medal is in really fine condition still having almost all of its original silvered surfaces. The pebbled areas of the legs of the cross are a more muted silvering than the outside edges and in the center is a muted silver background with a bright raised swastika. The reverse of the medal has a barrel hinge with Coke bottle pin. The pin is marked 50.

An extremely nice example here.
