Thomas T. Wittmann
Thomas T. Wittmann has been an edged weapon collector since 1966. He is the co-author of one of the preeminent references available on the subject, "Collecting the Edged Weapons of Imperial Germany". Moreover, he is one of the world's foremost authorities on German Third Reich edged weapons and is regularly called upon by dealers, collectors, and hobbyists worldwide for his expertise. He has been a stong advocate of militaria collecting as a legitimate hobby for many years, being the first to offer authenticity videos on the hobby, beginning in 1987. He and his staff maintain one of the most highly regarded websites dedicated to the edged weapons used by Imperial and Third Reich Germany, known as Wittman Militaria. Since the mid 80's, Mr. Wittmann has written and published four highly regarded books on the subject of German edged weapons. The "Exploring" series includes books detailing the daggers of the German Army, Navy, Luftwaffe, and SS. A fifth book, devoted to the German SA, is in the works. Mr. Wittmann currently serves as advertising and promotion coordinator of the MAX Show, and is Seretary-Treasurer of the organization. Mr. Wittmann is a member of the New England Appraisers Association and a Max Certified Dealer.
Marie D. Wittmann
As the oft-heard expression goes, there is "always a woman behind every successful man". Well this statement must have been written for Marie. Marie joined Tom in the show circuit, about the same time the pair got together back in the early 1980s. From the get-go, she insisted on a fine professional presentation of our table merchandise, an early key to our success. Marie used to be the official merchandise packer and helped with inventory. The business has flourished over the years. Like many "dealer wives" she has now taken a backseat to the show circuit, and much of the day-to-day tasks, but remains active with the guidance of our home/cellar mail order enterprise. Marie is a key to keeping order in the office, making sure employees perform up to snuff and to handling many unpleasant issues where Tom admittedly la cks the skills. Marie enjoys gardening in the backyard of our Victorian home and the company of her three cats and her new "peek-a-poop" puppy dog.
Robert Wittmann
Robert H. Wittmann joined his father in 2005 to fill the invaluable key position as staff photographer and web site computer technology analyst. His abilities in art technique and camera expertise have proven to be major assets for our family Militaria business. Exceptional photographs are not only demanded by our fastidious buyers, but have become a necessary tool for any quality web site. He also is a master of organizing, safely storing the many thousands of Militaria artifacts in inventory on premises within our vaults. In the process, Rob is also learning the ins and outs of artifact authentification, as he gains valuable experience examining and researching the best in Militaria through a closeup lens. As a side-line, Rob is also responsibile for the MAX Show dealer table layout and for assigning tables to MAX Show dealer attendees.
Debbie B.
Meet Debbie B. For over 25 years, Debbie has been the first voice you'll hear when calling Wittmann's. Intelligent, efficient and loyal, she capably handles all of your calls, emails, and orders. Far more than a simple secretary, Debbie deftly handles the sometimes monumental task of keeping the office running smoothly. Debbie met Tom shortly after his devastating robbery in 1985, when he decided to change his sales tactics and start publishing a catalog, as opposed to braving the perils of the show circuit. With her help and hard work, it wasn't long before the simple 15 page price list transformed into a gargantuan 1000 page color catalog. With the advent of the Internet, it was clear that the printed catalog was quickly becoming a thing of the past. It was Debbie who learned HTML and published the very first incarnation of this website, way back in 2003. Her continued dedication to Wittmann's has kept the company moving forward into the 21st century, and her talents have set the standard of excellence to which we still aspire.
John Cataldi
Our newest addition, John Cataldi is in charge of the Militaria business tech department. After joining the company three years ago, his efforts to improve the Wittmann Militaria web site are nothing short of spectacular. In addition, John can also repair any flukes or damage to the in-house computer systems as well as upgrade or personally do the installation of new computers. In addition to this all-important function, John also serves as our packaging manager. The safety of our artifacts through superior packaging and proper destination labels and insurance are at the heart of any full time mail order business, and is a responsibility that we take very seriously here at Wittmann Militaria.
Mike Polizzi
Mike Polizzi and Tom Wittmann, Sr. first met each other when they were set-up, back-to-back at a 1988 MAX Show in Baltimore. They struck up an immediate friendship, and since then, Mike has been Tom's indispensible table manager and adviser at each MAX and SOS Show. Mike handles the entire packing process and supervises the truck loading and best route to the show. In addition, Mike works hard gathering Militaria for Tom's business through his many contacts and local advertising. Mike was an executive with the meat processing department of a major food chain store for 35 years. He recently retired from the meat business to persue full time his real passion in life - Militaria, coin and paper currency! He now works daily for a major Rochester coin and militaria dealer, and could not be happier.
Brian McNerney
Brian McNerney has been an associate and sub contractor to Thomas T. Wittmann, Sr, going back to 1981, when the pair first met while examining a Government Official's dagger at a collector's home. Brian's expertise is in artifact restoration and preservation. Brian is an expert machinist as well as being a clever craftsman. Over the years, he has successfully resolved many restoration problems that seemed impossible at first. Brian also has a master's eye for ill-fitting or inferior parts, often uncovering forgeries. He uses the same talents as well, to recognize originality or one-of-kind weapons. Brian's mastery of leathering coverings and wood grip restorations are well known in the industry.
