Enlisted or NCO personnel were permitted to purchase K-98 dress bayonets with fancy etched blades. These etchings run the gamut from simple designs featuring the standard remembrance, Zur Erinnerung an meine Dienstzeit (In memory of my service time), to very fancy, custom etched depictions, citing the individual's regiment, unit, and sometimes even his name. Many blade factories offered unique etch patterns. The etch work was often state of the art.

- SINGLE ETCHED BAYONET - F.W. HÖLLER
This Bayonet
hilt is in excellent condition, still having 100% of the original
nickel plating. This plating shows only the most nominal of age,
but still rates in near mint condition. The mortise button is
in good condition and works well. The grip plates are the black
Bakelite style, having good, close checkering . They are retained
by solid nickel rivets having dressed obverse heads. The original
red felt is still in the slot of this example. The short style
blade is the type with stepped end. The Höller etch is the
pattern known as Nr. Es102". This panel features a
center two-line standard remembrance which is flanked by oak leaves
and a Wehrmacht eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The frosting
is in good shape in the backgrounds. The reverse blade is also
in mint condition. The ricasso is stamped with the double ovals
which trap the firms name and location, FW Höller
Solingen. Inside is the familiar logo of the thermometer
with many digits. The brown leather blade washer is in place.
The scabbard is nice and straight, having good, original black
paint. This paint shows only nominal age and easily rates at excellent
plus plus. The patent leather black frog is also a good one, not
showing much attic crazing. This frog also has a rivet in the
center reverse. It is equipped with an NCO troddel. This troddel
is the fabric type which features green strapping having triple
sets of aluminum bullion lines running the length of each edge.
The slide and stem are bullion, having green v style
weaved stitching. The cap is green and bullion specks and the
lower ball is bullion yarn-like material. This bayonet is the
same as the Techet book Page 174, lower. A very nice bayonet here.

- STAG GRIPPED BAYONET WITH ETCHED BLADE PERSONALIZATION - NO
MAKER
This fine looking
Bayonet has been plated in the later-seen chrome finish. The chrome
finish has a slightly lighter color tone to it than the nickel,
but the practiced eye will easily see it. This finish is still
in perfect condition throughout. The mortise button and lock work
well. The original felt is missing from the blade slot. The grip
plates of this example are extremely pretty. They are a fine stag,
having attractive brown and tan grains with golden edges. These
grip plates were cut and fit by a master. They are retained by
brass rivets which have dressed heads on both sides. The scabbard
has its original black paint and it is nice and straight throughout.
The paint is in good condition, having a few wearing signs, but
it easily rates at about 95%. There are also signs in the paint
where a once present frog rubbed a little of the surface. The
long style blade is the type which has a wide fuller. This blade
also has a chrome plated finish. It is my guess that this chrome
finish could have been ordered as an extra feature, since this
man had his blade personalized. The personalization is very similar
to the type which is shown in the Wayne Techet book on Page 255.
The mans name is beautifully etched into the center of the
blade and the backgrounds have been gilded. Flanking the name
are some fancy scroll work which extends under the name also.
The name written in script is Helmut Bür. The
detail to the lettering is exquisite and this is really quite
a nice looking bayonet. It is possible that this name could be
researched, although, since he was an enlisted man, it is a lot
tougher than finding an officer who would normally be on the Luftwaffe
rank list. The blade is in near full mint condition and has been
protected by an in-place, brown leather buffer. A very fine example
here, and bayonets with this type of personalization are quite
rarely seen. Near Mint. $995.00

- LONG ETCHED BAYONET - PAUL SEILHEIMER
The Seilheimer
firm did make some original bayonets. You have to watch out for
the post-war type, though. This example is 100% original, and
is identical to the one which is shown in the Wayne Techet book
on Page 204. The hilt has good nickel plating. The nickeling shows
some minor age in the surfaces but it does cover at 100%. The
mortise button and lock works well. The red felt is still in the
rifle slot, showing very little mothing. The grip plates are the
black Bakelite type and there is just the slightest little surface
chip at the edge of the obverse grip at the upper portion. These
grip plates are retained by nickel plated rivets, the obverse
heads being dressed. The scabbard is a fine, straight example
with choice original black paint. This black paint still remains
in near full mint condition. Attached to the scabbard is an outstanding
brown frog. This frog is a darker brown color, but it is in still-perfect
condition, rating near mint. It is the type which has a stabilizing
rivet in the center of the reverse area. Nice frog here! The long
style blade has wide fuller. The blade surfaces have just the
slightest bit of age in them, taking this blade from a mint rating.
The blade, though, is still nice and clear and crisp. The etch
is on the obverse and features a good, frosted back panel. In
the center is the double-line, raised out standard remembrance.
It is flanked by oak leaves after the remembrance and on the left
side there is an open-winged eagle which clutches a wreathed swastika
and on the right side there is a nicely defined helmet which has
a clearly seen National emblem decal. The reverse of the blade
is stamped with the firms initials intertwined within a
circle. Around the circle is the printed name of the firm Paul
Seilheimer Solingen. The original brown leather washer is
in place. A fairly rare bayonet to acquire and still in collectible
condition. Excellent Plus. $795.00
SDBAY - 006 - 26615
- LONG, SINGLE ETCHED BAYONET - PUMA
The Puma firm
did not make a lot of bayonets and, therefore, they are not seen
too often. This one is a rarely seen etch to go along with the
scarcity of Puma etched bayonets. The hilt of this example has
good nickel plating. The plating remains bright throughout, showing
only a minor amount of thinning on the reverse area around the
mortise lock. Otherwise, the plating is near 100%. The mortise
lock and button work well. The original felt is still in place
having a couple of moth nips. The grip plates are the black Bakelite
variety and they are crisp, being retained by nickel plated rivets.
The obverse heads are dressed. The scabbard of this example is
straight throughout, having some spidering and age in the surfaces
of the paint. This paint rates at approximately 80% - 85%. The
area which was once covered by a frog (now missing) still has
better paint than the rest of the area. This scabbard, though,
would clean up some and still grades at about excellent. The long
style blade is the type which has wide fuller construction. The
obverse blade is plain and in mint condition. The reverse blade
has the etch design. This etch design is identical to the example
shown in the Wayne Techet book on Page 214, lower. The design
features a two-line standard remembrance in the center and below
the remembrance is the town and area where the original recipient
comes from Kempten/Allgäu. Flanking this unusual
etch design are sprigs of oak leaves and, placed at the left end
of the etch panel is an open-winged eagle with swastika with lots
of curly cue designs behind him. On the right side are the same
curly cue designs having a nicely detailed helmet over them. The
helmet has good detail throughout and the National eagle decal
can be seen. At the lower edge of the etch is the term Ges.
Gesch., indicating this pattern etch had been applied for
a patent. The ricasso area has the stamping of the diamond containing
the head of a cat with the firms name below, Puma.
Below the diamond is the town of production, Solingen.
The original blade buffer is protecting this fine, mint conditioned
blade. A good-looking example here, and a real find for those
collecting etched pattern bayonets.
Excellent Plus Plus. $1,195.00
SDBAY - 007 - 25478
- LUFTWAFFE SINGLE ETCHED SHORT BAYONET - CARL EICKHORN
This Luftwaffe
etched bayonet is in choice condition and is very desirable. The
same style bayonet is shown in the Wayne Techet book on Pages
114 and 115. The hilt of this bayonet is nice and bright, having
100% of the nickel plated finish. The finish is about as fine
as you will see them. The mortise button and lock are in good,
working order. The original felt is still in the slot of this
hilt. In this case, this felt is a yellow color which is interesting.
Normally, all we ever see are the red style felt inserts, but
this one looks original and has some age to its surfaces, even
having a couple of small moth nips in it. It appears to be the
real deal to me! The scabbard of this piece is nice and straight
throughout and has outstanding original black paint. This paint
is about 99%, having only one minor scuff on the obverse, and
the reverse is perfect. Attached to the scabbard is a choice brown
leather frog. This frog is in the same matching condition as the
rest of the piece. It is difficult to find nice frogs like this
one. The blade is the short style having stepped construction
and narrow fuller. This blade is slightly different from the one
seen in the Techet book, as these etches are on long blades, not
the short blade. The blade features in the center a double ribboned
standard remembrance having oak leaves and acorns
around the ribbons. At the ricasso area is an Army Wehrmacht eagle
which clutches a swastika in his talons. The bird looks to the
viewers right and is in choice, perfect condition. The upper
portion of the etch portrays a wreath of oak leaves with acorns.
Inside of the wreath are two gulls. These gulls are positioned
so that one looks larger than the other to give the image of distance.
The etch is absolutely perfect and crisp throughout this entire
panel and all of the frosted background is in place showing off
the bright raised areas. This Luftwaffe etch for some reason,
does not appear in the Eickhorn catalogue. It can be assumed that
the design was introduced after the catalogue came out. Possibly,
this gull wing within wreath design replaced the Luftwaffe eagle
type that was used prior to this and does appear in the catalogue.
Either way, these etches are extremely popular and a piece in
this condition is highly sought after. The reverse of the blade
is completely plain and in full mint condition. This blade is
stamped with the 1935-41 squirrel trademark. The original brown
leather blade washer is in place. A very fine example here and
extremely desirable. Mint Minus. $1,495.00
SDBAY - 008 - 26385C
- LONG ETCHED INFANTRY BAYONET - E & F HÖRSTER
The nickel
plating to the hilt of this etched Bayonet is still all there.
It shows a little bit of mild age in the surfaces and ever the
slightest amount of freckling. All in all, though, the plating
is still at least in excellent plus plus condition. The mortise
button and lock work well. The red felt insert is in place, having
a couple of minor moth nips. The black Bakelite grip plates are
nice and crisp, having a finer cross-checkering than most. The
Bakelite is also the earlier type. The grip plates are retained
by two nickel rivets having dressed obverse heads. The scabbard
is in good condition throughout, having the original black paint.
This paint does show some minor scratching on the obverse and
some rub wear on the reverse. Also, the lower ball has a small
hit to the bottom of it. Overall, though, the scabbard is still
okay and rates excellent. The scabbard has a fine, black leather
frog which is in excellent condition. This frog shows no deterioration
and tends to dress up the scabbard. The long blade is the style
with wide fuller construction. The obverse has a good etch panel
which has ending designs of curls which come to a point. In the
center, there is a two-line standard remembrance which ends in
a third line which cites the original owners regiment and
garrison town, bei dem I.R.57 Siegen.. The frosting
is perfect behind the nice etch and the blade is in mint condition
on both sides. The obverse ricasso is stamped with the double
oval producer name. The ovals trap the firms name and location
EuF.Hörster Solingen. Inside is the large H
letter which contains the smaller hs letters being
pierced by a sword. This identical etch and stamping appears on
Page 135, upper, of the Wayne Techet book. The original leather
blade washer is in place. A rarely seen bayonet. Excellent Plus
Plus. $795.00
SDBAY - 009 - 26381C
- SINGLE ETCH SHORT BAYONET - E. PACK & SÖHNE
The plating
to the hilt of this Bayonet is in choice, bright condition. It
rates in near full mint, showing little age. The mortise button
and lock work well. The green felt is still in the rifle slot,
showing no mothing. The grip plates are the fine, black, checkered
type and, as is usually the case with Pack bayonets, these grip
plates are retained by offset rivets and spanner construction.
Nice hilt here! The scabbard is also a beauty, being straight
throughout and having outstanding original black paint. There
are only a couple of scratches and a few carrying signs here,
but this scabbard still rates in near full mint. It is equipped
with a choice conditioned black leather frog. This frog is also
just as nice as the rest of the bayonet, rating near mint. The
blade is a real beauty, being the short-stepped variety having
narrow fuller. The etch is the so-called neutral pattern
issued by Pack which features an open-winged eagle. This etch
is the same as is shown on Page 147 of the Techet book. The eagle
is truly great looking with its wide wing spread and squared off
wing ends. The bird has great checkering to its breast area and
clutches a wreathed swastika. This beautiful bird is positioned
over 100% frosted background which has lots of nice oak leaves
and acorns spread around it. In the center is the standard remembrance
in large capital letters. A great etch here on a choice mint blade.
The reverse of the blade ricasso is etched with the large Siegfried
Waffen trademark. To the left of the hammering Siegfried is the
firms name and location E.Pack & Söhne Solingen.
The original leather blade washer is in place. If I were collecting
etched bayonets, I would surely have to have this piece in my
collection. It is a real beauty and has the great art-deco look
that we so admired during this Third Reich period. Mint Minus.

Single-etch, Long Bayonet by Carl Eickhorn
This Dress
Bayonet has fairly good plating to the hilt. The plating is still
bright throughout and is only beginning to fail a little on the
sharp edges of the pommel top and also around the mortise button.
The button works well, as does the lock. The grip plates are the
black, checkered variety. They are still crisp and are retained
by steel rivets, having dressed heads on the obverse. The blade
of this example is the long style, having wide fuller. It is still
bright throughout, having 100% of the nickel-plating, and other
than a few in and out scratches, is in mint condition. The obverse
blade is etched with the pattern, 3219, the same as
the Wayne Techet book on Page 110. This pattern features the standard,
ribboned, remembrance in the center, which is outlined with oak
leaves. At the upper and lower, the remembrance is flanked by
close-winged, Wehrmacht eagles, which both clutch swastikas. The
brown leather washer is in place. The scabbard is the matching
long variety. Much of the paint is gone from this scabbard, however,
it is still dent free. There is no frog. A good, single-etched,
bayonet here that is priced reasonably for the person on a budget.

SINGLE ETCHED LUFTWAFFE BAYONET HACK-WERKE, STEYR
This Luftwaffe
bayonet has a very rare maker mark for bayonets and it is the
first example that I have handled. It appears to be the same as
the piece which is shown in the Wayne Techet book on page 195.
The hilt of this example is slightly patinated, but the plating
looks to still be in excellent condition. There is a little bit
of tap-tap on the reverse spine area around the rifle
slot and there is also some of the same around the mortise lock,
but it is not bad. The grip plates are in good condition throughout,
being the black checkered Bakelite. The rivets are aluminum, having
dressed heads on the obverse. The scabbard is a short variety
having good black paint except for the tip area, where the paint
is missing for about an inch upward. The paint other than this
area though, is still bright and in excellent condition. There
is a brown leather frog attached to the scabbard. This frog appears
original to the piece. It is in fine condition and is the style
that has the quality rivet in the reverse. The blade of this example
is a short style having a wide fuller construction. The etch is
on the obverse and is read toward the hilt, rather than the usual
type we see toward the tip. The etch is identical to the book
piece. This etch was originally produced by the Robert Klass firm
and possibly, this firm also did this example. The etch has the
SS style cloverleaves which flank both ends. In the center is
a two-line standard remembrance. At the left of the remembrance
is an early droop-tail eagle clutching a swastika. The detail
is outstanding to this bird. At the right is a helmet which has
oak leaf sprigs at the front and back of the helmet. In the center,
is a clearly seen National insignia. The etch is extremely well
done, with a fine, frosted background. The blade is in mint condition.
The reverse is plain and is stamped with a very rarely seen trademark
which is that of the Austrian firm Hack-Werke Steyr.
In the center is an oval which features a well-detailed fish which
is swimming toward the blade tip. This maker mark is the same
as page 195. The original brown leather washer is in place. It
is interesting to note that this washer is installed behind the
blade shoulders, not overtop. Normally, when we see this, it is
a sign of a possible post-war piece. This example was made like
this and is entirely authentic. An outstanding, original bayonet
here which is ultra-rare.Excellent Plus. $1,495.00
SDBAY - 012 - 26973
- LUFTWAFFE LONG SINGLE-ETCHED BAYONET WITH DISTRIBUTOR - CARL
EICKHORN
This Luftwaffe
etched bayonet is not something we see very frequently. The hilt
still has fairly good nickel plating, but it does show some mild
freckling in the surfaces, but nothing that is too bad. All the
plating still remains. The felt is missing from the rifle slot.
The mortise button and lock still work well. The black Bakelite
grip plates are the checkered variety and they are in good condition,
being retained by nickel plated steel rivets having dressed heads
on the obverse. The scabbard is straight throughout and it is
the long type. This scabbard has perfect original black paint
showing only the most nominal of usage signs. There is also a
fine black frog which has the markings of a leather producer.
The frog is in very nice condition. The blade of this example
is the long style and is the same as is shown in the Wayne Techet
book on page 121, lower. This particular etch depicts the standard
remembrance in a two ribbons in the center surrounded by oak leaf
sprigs. At the ricasso area, there is a closed winged eagle which
clutches a swastika. At the upper portion of the etch there is
a raised out oak leaf wreath and in the center is superimposed
an eagle flying to the viewers left and clutching a swastika.
The details throughout this bird is outstanding and the original
frosted backgrounds looks to still all be there. This particular
etch pattern does not appear in the 1939 Eickhorn Kundendienst
(catalogue), so it is possible that the etch was developed after
1939. The blade of this example shows some minor scratching towards
the reverse area, but it does not appear on the obverse tip area.
The blade, other than this scratching, is in near full mint condition.
The obverse is stamped with a Viennese retail shop Militärwarenhaus/Dürbech/Wien
IX. This Viennese retailer must have sold a lot of bayonets
for the Carl Eickhorn firm. On the reverse is the 1935-41 squirrel
trademark. The original leather washer is in place. A fairly rare
example here and nice for display. Excellent Plus Plus. $1,395.00

- LONG ETCHED ARMY BAYONET - EMIL VOOS
This Army etched
bayonet has fairly good nickel plating to the hilt. The plating
is all there, although it does show a little bit of minor freckling
in the surfaces. The felt is missing from the rifle slot and the
mortise button and lock work well. The grip plates are the black
checkered bake-o-lite type and they are in perfect condition,
being retained by steel rivets having dressed heads on the obverse.
The scabbard of this example is straight throughout, having excellent
original paint. This paint covers at 100% and is in near mint
condition. There is a patent leather frog fitted to the scabbard.
This frog has good, bright surfaces without too much attic crazing.
The reverse of the frog has the deluxe feature of a field gray
velvet covering. It is beginning to wear but does not look too
bad. The blade of this example is a long style having wide fuller
construction. The etch was most likely done by the Robert Klass
firm and sold to the Voos company. The etch features the cloverleaf
style designs which flank both edges. In the center is a two-line
standard remembrance and on the left side is a helmet featuring
a good national emblem in the center. On the right is an open-winged
Army eagle clutching a mobile swastika. The frosting is excellent
in the backgrounds and the blade appears to be in full mint condition.
It is also interesting to note that the Klass firm had this design
patented, as the words Ges. Gesch. appear in very
small letters at the lower right portion. The reverse of the blade
is plain and is in the same choice, bright condition. The reverse
ricasso is stamped with the snake around tree symbol and to the
right, the name of the firm and its location appear Emil
Voos Solingen. The original brown leather blade washer is
in place. A nice looking example here with a desirable producer.

- LONG SINGLE ETCHED ARMY BAYONET - PAUL SEILHEIMER
This single
etched Army bayonet is the same as the one shown in the Wayne
Techet book on page 204. The hilt of this example is still nice
and bright and it does have a couple of usage signs around it,
but I think it would clean up to near mint if someone wanted to
bother. The mortise button and lock work well. The original red
felt is still in the rifle slot. The grip plates are the black
Bakelite type having fine checkering, and they are retained by
nickel plated rivets having dressed heads on the obverse. The
scabbard is straight throughout. It looks as though there was
some hand touching up of this scabbard paint, as it is pretty
easy to see the brush marks. This could be fixed up a lot by compounding
this scabbard paint. There is also a K-98 style rough leather
frog with this scabbard. It is the type with four-rivet aluminum
construction. There is a leather maker marking stamped into the
reverse. The blade of this example is the long style with wide
fuller construction. It is in mint condition. The obverse etching
depicts a fine panel with an open-winged eagle and wreathed swastika
at the left end and a nicely detailed helmet at the right end.
There are sprigs of oak leaves that decorate the inner portion
of these depictions. In the center is a two-line standard remembrance
inscription. The frosted backgrounds are perfect. The reverse
blade is plain and is stamped with the early trademark used by
this firm. It is the same as the one shown at the top of the page
in the Techet book on page 204. It features a single circle having
the firms initials intertwined in the center PS.
Around the circle, the firms name and location is block
capital lettered PAUL SEILHEIMER SOLINGEN. The original
brown leather blade buffer is in place. A good example here which
would do better with the scabbard paint compounded. Still, a fairly
rare original bayonet. Excellent Plus Plus. $995.00

- SINGLE ETCHED SHORT ARMY BAYONET - E & F HÖRSTER
This single
etched short Army bayonet is very similar to the example shown
in the Wayne Techet book on pages 136 and 137, but it is also
different in that it only has one caricature on the blade along
with the standard remembrance. The book examples show two caricatures.
The hilt of this example is quite nice, still having fine, bright,
100% nickel plating. This plating is still in mint condition.
The mortise button and lock work well. The original red felt is
still in the rifle slot. The grip plates are the black checkered
Bakelite and they are in choice condition, being retained by nickel
plated steel rivets having dressed heads on the obverse. The scabbard
is nice and straight. It has excellent original paint, showing
a few wearing signs but, overall, this paint is still in near
mint condition. There is a patent leather black frog which does
show some attic crazing, but it is still serviceable. The blade
is a short stepped variety having narrow fuller. It has a fine
frosted appearance in the backgrounds and this blade is in mint
condition. It depicts a two-line standard remembrance and to the
left of this is an open-winged Army eagle clutching a wreathed
mobile swastika. Next to the eagle is a sprig of oak leaves. To
the right of the dedication and bordering the ricasso is another
sprig of oak leaves. The obverse ricasso is stamped with the maker
name and logo. It is a double oval which captures the firms
name and location EuF. Hörster Solingen. Inside
is a large H letter which houses within a smaller
h and s letter pierced by a sword. The

SDBAY - 041 - LUFTWAFFE STAG GRIPPED ETCHED LONG BAYONET - E. Pack & Söhne
The
hilt fittings of this fine bayonet are bright nickel throughout.
There is a small flake at the upper pommel edge and also a small
one where the pommel meets the grip plates, but these are extremely
minor flaws. The plating is still in near mint condition and looks
great throughout this hilt. The mortise button works well and
the red felt is still in the rifle slot. This original felt has
a few moth tracks, but they are minor in nature. The grip plates
are beautiful genuine antler. This stag will bring a smile to
your face as it really looks great. It is perfectly fitted, done
by a master. The brown and tan color tones really look beautiful
against the golden edges of these grip plates. As is the normally
the case with Pack, the plates are retained by offset rivets with
spanner nuts. The plating has mostly gone from the top spanner,
but it is in perfect condition on the lower example. Because of
the brown tones of the grip plates, this plating flaw does not
even show. The scabbard is nice and straight. It has good luster
to its original black finish but there is some carriage usage
signs also. This paint rates at approximately 90% to 95%. The
scabbard, though, is really set off by a terrific Luftwaffe frog.
This frog is a lighter color almost tan color leather. It is extremely
well made having four rivet construction. The frog is very beautiful
and adds much to this piece. The reverse of the frog is stamped,
R.B.Nr.0/0850/0189. These numbers indicate that this
was Luftwaffe property. The blade is a long variety and it is
in bright nickel plated condition. This mint blade is a real beauty.
The obverse is etched with the early neutral pattern
used by Pack. This pattern can be seen on Page 147 of the Techet
book lower. It features a panel with stylized lines which act
as a border. The lines that Pack used seem to resemble a Japanese
flag to me. The center area features a two line raised out standard
remembrance and it is flanked by three leaf oak leaf sprigs. The
background frosting is 100% and the details to this etch are outstanding.
The reverse of this mint blade is plain. It is stamped on the
ricasso with the small hammering Siegfried figure at the left.
To the right of the figure is the three line stamping of the maker
mark and location, E.Pack/& Söhne/Solingen.
The original brown leather blade washer is in place. An outstanding
Luftwaffe etched bayonet and very desirable with all of its features.

SDBAY - 042 - SINGLE ETCHED LONG BAYONET - WKC
The hilt of
this outstanding Bayonet is in choice condition having 100% nickel
plating, still being factory bright. The mortise button works
well and the original red felt is still in the rifle slot. This
felt has one moth track, but other than that, it is in good condition.
The grip plates are the black checkered variety and they are in
good condition having nickel-plated steel rivets with dressed
obverse heads. The scabbard is a straight example having outstanding
original paint. This black paint still has its original factory
luster and is nearly 100%. Fine scabbard here! There is a frog
which appears to be a patent leather type. It has experienced
some attic crazing, but still is serviceable, and is the quality
type with rivet-in-the-reverse back panel. The blade is the long
type having a wide fuller. This blade is in choice mint condition
having bright nickel-plated surfaces throughout. The reverse is
plain. The obverse has the most commonly seen WKC-done etched
panel. It features an open winged eagle clutching a wreathed swastika
in the center. On either side of the bird there are ribbons which
contain the standard remembrance. The entire ribboned section
is surrounded by oak leaves on both sides. The background panels
have 100% frosting, really showing off this fine etch. This etch
is the same as is shown in the Techet Book on page 235, lower.
It is interesting that Wayne Techet points out that there are
two different etches of this same motif which were produced by
WKC. The obverse ricasso is stamped with the knighthead logo and
below, are the initials of the firm, "WKC". The original
brown leather blade buffer is in place. A fine example here and
terrific for display.

SDBAY - 053 - 25277 Long Single Etched
Bayonet by Alcoso
This long single
etched bayonet is apparently a later made piece, as it reflects
a chrome-like finish throughout the hilt and blade, being slightly
different from the nickel-tones, we see on earlier pieces. Aside
from the fact that the blade is a long type, this etch is identical
to the example shown in the Techet book, on page 100. The hilt
of this bayonet is choice and crisp throughout. The plating is
easily 100%, and other than the slightest usage signs, is in full
mint condition. The mortise lock and button work well. The grip
plates are the standard checkered bakelite and they too, are in
perfect condition. They are retained by nickel rivets, having
dressed heads on the obverse, and a good attempt at dressing on
the reverse. Nice hilt here! The scabbard is nice and straight
throughout, and it has good, bright, original black paint. This
paint is about 98%, showing a few scrapes and a little bit of
crazing, but overall, it is very nice. The scabbard is equipped
with a patent leather black frog. This frog shows some minor attic
crazing, but much less than they usually are. This frog is very
serviceable. The long blade of this example is completely bright,
and in full mint condition. This blade has wide fuller construction.
The panel etch appears on the obverse, featuring pointed flanking
ends, and borders of oak leaves, which run around the perimeter.
In the center area, there is a closed-winged Wehrmacht eagle,
which clutches a swastika. On either side of the bird, is the
standard remembrance. The frosting is outstanding throughout this
depiction, adding much splendor to the bright work. A great looking
etch panel here and not commonly seen. The reverse blade is plain
and mint being stamped with the trademark used from 1937 up until
1940. This trademark presents the scales, having the firms
initials, ACS, interspersed. Above the scales, is
the block lettered firm name in an arch, Alcoso, and
below, is the location of, Solingen. The original
brown leather washer is in place. A fine etched bayonet here.

SDBAY - 056 - 25596 Single Etched Short
Bayonet by Targer
The pommel
of this Single Etched Short Bayonet example has good plating,
having a little bit of wear in the surfaces, and some minor age.
The obverse plating now is all there, with just a little bit missing
at the reverse pommel tip. The mortise button and lock work fine,
and the original red felt is still in the rifle slot. The bakelite
grip plates are in excellent condition on the obverse, whereas
the reverse has a small chip missing near the quillon and edge.
It is very minor however. These plates are retained by steel rivets,
having dressed heads on the obverse. The scabbard is straight
throughout, having good original black paint. This paint appears
mint on the reverse, showing just the slightest bit of age on
the obverse. Overall, though, this paint easily rates near mint.
There is a patent leather frog showing the normal attic crazing.
This frog, however, is still serviceable. Attached to the frog
is a bayonet enlisted mans troddel. This troddel has cotton
strapping, with a texture format. The strapping is in perfect
condition, being nicely set in the original tie. The slide is
a yellow-gold color, as is the stem and yarn-like acorn top. The
lower portion of the acorn is gray yarn-like thread, having an
insert which matches the strapping. This is a fine troddel here.
The blade of this example is a short variety, having a wide fuller
construction. It is not the usual stepped type that we see. The
depiction is outstanding, being identical to the etching shown
on page 225, of the Wayne Techet book. Although this blade is
Tiger marked, this etch pattern belongs to the Robert Klaas firm.
This etching is always a popular one, featuring the long wide
open winged eagle, clutching a swastika. The wings of this bird
actually measure 3 inches. That is a big distance on a blade,
which only measures less than 8 inches. The detail to the bird
is exceptional, and it is in an art deco style. On either side
of the swastika wreath, is the standard remembrance. The etch
is flanked on both ends with a cloverleaf design being identical
to that seen on the Chained SS snap clip. This design is known
as the Wotans knot. The etch pattern also includes a very
tiny, raised out patent pending mark being, Geschutzt.
The frosting is really great behind this etch, and this blade
is easily in a full mint state. The ricasso is stamped with a
prowling tiger, which is making his way to the left, heading towards
the blades spine. The reverse blade is plain throughout,
and on the ricasso it is stamped, Tiger Solingen.
The original black leather washer is in place. A really great
bayonet here and a perfect example for display.

SDBAY - 058 - 25648 Single Etched Long
Bayonet with Distributor by Carl Eickhorn
The hilt fittings
of this Single Etched Long Bayonet have outstanding bright nickel
plating. This plating remains at 100%, and is easily in near full
mint condition. The mortise button and lock work well. The original
red felt has gone to time. The grip plates are nice and crisp,
and are retained by nickel-plated steel rivets. These rivets are
dressed on the obverse. The scabbard is also in choice condition.
It is straight throughout, and has outstanding original black
paint. This black paint shows only the most nominal of age, and
is in near 100% condition. The long style blade is in near mint
condition, having just a little bit of age noticeable at the ricasso
area, but only where it comes off of the leather washer. The rest
of the blade is easily in near full mint condition. This long
blade has a wide fuller, and features the Eickhorn standard etch,
No. 3219. This etch features a ribboned standard remembrance,
having oak leaves around its border. It is flanked by two Wehrmacht
eagles, which are looking to the viewers right, and are
grasping mobile swastikas. The frosting is still outstanding in
the backgrounds, and giving a good relief to the etching. The
reverse of the blade is plain, and also in nice condition. The
reverse has the standard, 1935 through 1941, Eickhorn logo squirrel
etching. It is interesting to note that the obverse was stamped
with a Viennese distributor. It is stamped in three lines, the
first line being in an arch shape, Militarwarenhaus/Durbeck/WienIX.
This bayonet, obviously, was purchased by an Army NCO, who was
garrisoned in Vienna. This bayonet is identical to the example
shown on page 244, of the Wayne Techet book, upper photograph.
The original blade washer is in place. An interesting bayonet
here and in very collectable condition. Excellent, Plus, Plus

SDBAY - 060 - 25687 Single Etched Infantry
Short Bayonet by Carl Eickhorn
This is the
Infantry motif that was offered by Eickhorn being the catalogue
No. 3220. An identical bayonet can be seen in the Wayne Techet
book, on page 111. The hilt of this bayonet is still fairly bright,
and has good nickel plating. The nickeling shows just a little
bit of peeling here and there, with a tiny bit of age, but overall
it is about 98%. The mortise button and lock work well, and the
original red felt is in the rifle slot, having just a little bit
of mothing. The black checkered bakelite grip plates are crisp,
and in good shape, being retained by steel rivets, having dressed
heads on the obverse. The scabbard is nice and straight, having
good black original painted finish. This finish is mint on the
reverse, and on the obverse, has just a couple of minor carrying
signs. Overall, though, this paint rates at 99%. There is a black
patent leather frog, which shows less than the normal attic crazing,
and is extremely serviceable. The short style blade has the stepped
end configuration, and is constructed using short fuller. This
blade is etched with the Eickhorn pattern No. 3220. This pattern
features the ribboned standard remembrance, surrounded by oak
leafing. At the bottom area, is a closed-winged Wehrmacht eagle,
which clutches a swastika. At the upper end, is nicely detailed
helmet, positioned over crossed rifles, which are superimposed
over an oval wreath of oak leaves. The depiction is extremely
sharp, and the rivets can even be seen in the etched stock of
the K98 Mausers. The frosted background is easily 100%. The reverse
blade is plain and is in mint condition. It is stamped, on the
ricasso, with the 1935 through 1941 Eickhorn squirrel trademark.
The original brown leather blade buffer is in place. A fairly
hard to come by etch pattern.

SDBAY - 061 - 25686 Single Etched Short
Bayonet by Carl Eickhorn
The hilt of
this example is nice and bright, and is about as nice as you will
find them. This nickel plating is 100%, and shows very little
age. The mortise button and lock work well, and the original red
felt is in the rifle slot, showing little signs of age. The black
checkered grip plates are crisp, and are retained by nickel-plated
steel rivets, having dressed obverse heads. The scabbard is straight
throughout, having a good original black coat of paint. This paint
shows a little bit of usage and some crazing, but overall it is
about 98%, and looks good. There is a patent leather black frog,
the type having the quality rivet in the reverse. This frog shows
the usual attic crazing, but it is still serviceable. The blade
is nice and bright, and is a short example, having a stepped end.
This mint blade has beautiful frosted panels in the backgrounds.
The blade etch is the standard variety used by Eickhorn, and listed
in the catalogue as etch pattern No. 3219. This etch pattern features
a ribboned standard remembrance in the center, surrounded by oak
leaves. On either side are Wehrmacht eagles, which look to the
viewers right, and grasp mobile swastikas in their claws.
Nice looking etch here, being identical to the example shown in
the Wayne Techet book, page 110. The reverse blade is the plain
type, having stepped end, and no fuller. The 1935 through 1941
Eickhorn logo, stamped on the ricasso. The black leather blade
washer is in place. A nice standard example here.Near Mint $795.00
SDBAY - 064 - 25446 Short Etched Bayonet
marked Solingen (C. Gustav Spitzer)
This Short
Etched Bayonet is identical to the example shown on page 190,
in the Wayne Techet book. The hilt has good bright nickel plating
throughout. This plating has a couple of hits, here and there,
but overall it still looks good, and is still remaining at 100%.
The rifle slot has the original red felt, and the mortise button
and lock work fine. The grip plates are the black checkered bakelite
type, and they are in pristine condition, being retained by nickel-plated
steel rivets, having dressed obverse heads. The scabbard is nice
and straight throughout, and it has excellent original black paint.
This paint shows some minor chipping and usage, here and there,
but still rates at about 98%. There is no frog. The blade is the
short variety, having wide fuller. It is identical to the Techet
book piece. This blade has a choice etch, which features a wide,
open-winged, highly detailed, eagle in the center, grasping a
wreath with mobile swastika within. This bird has all kinds of
detail to the head, feathering, talons, and wreath. In fact, in
the book the pattern is described as, busy. On either
side of the blade is the standard remembrance, within a ribbon.
It is flanked by oak leaves and acorns, running throughout the
entire etched background. There is frosting visible, but I must
say, most of the area is covered with designs. Busy
or not, this is one of my favorite etched pattern motifs. This
blade is in full mint condition. The reverse is plain, and also
is mint, being stamped with the location city, Solingen.
The blade itself, we know for sure, was made by the C. Gustav
Spitzer Company, but why it does not have this factory stampings,
is beyond me. This original blade has been nicely protected by
the in-place brown leather washer. A beautiful etched bayonet
to display with some other militaria.Near Mint $1,295.00
SDBAY - 065 - 25445 Etched Short Bayonet
by E. Pack & Söhne
The hilt of
this Etched Short Bayonet example is nicely nickel-plated, being
near 100%. This plating is nice and bright, and shows only the
most nominal of age. The mortise button and lock work well, and
the original green felt is still in the rifle slot, with no sign
of mothing. The grip plates are the black checkered bakelite variety,
and they are in perfect condition. As is the case with Pack bayonets,
the grip plates are retained by spanner and rivet hardware. The
rivet heads on the obverse still reflect 100% plating, as do the
spanners. An extremely nice hilt here! The short scabbard is straight
throughout, having good original paint. The reverse of the scabbard
shows a little mild wear and crazing to the paint, along the right
edge, and the obverse shows slightly more wear, mostly concentrated
around the lower area. This original paint rates at approximately
70% to 75%. The short blade is a stepped variety, having narrow
fuller. This blade is very bright, and easily in full mint condition.
It is identical to the example, which is shown in the Wayne Techet
book, on page 147B. The etch has 100% frosting, and features a
pointed area at the end, which is broken into segments. At the
beginning area, there is a design which sort of resembles a rising
Japanese sun. In the center area is the 2-line standard remembrance.
The remembrance is flanked by sprigs of oak leaves and acorns.
This design was described as the Neutral pattern,
and Pack used it to work with any branch of service. This blade
is in full mint condition. The reverse ricasso is stamped at the
left side, with the hammering Siegfried figure. To the right is
the name of the company and location, in three lines, E.
Pack/&Söhne/Solingen. The original brown leather
washer is in place, protecting this fine bayonet. Although there
are no swastikas in this design, it is still a very desirable
pattern, and if you are collecting Pack etches, you got to have
this one!

SDBAY - 066 - 25470 Stag Gripped Long
Bayonet with Personalized Blade by Carl Eickhorn
Although this
example is not a factory-etched piece, it still belongs in the
etched category, as it has a unique applied etch to the blade,
which we will discuss further down in the description. The nickel
plated hilt is in good condition throughout, having 100% plating,
and showing just a tiny bit of nominal age in the surfaces. The
mortise button and lock work well and there is no felt in the
rifle slot. The grip plates of this piece are a most impressive
stag. The stag is beautifully cut and fitted by a master craftsman.
The surfaces have very attractive dark brown grains and where
they have been trimmed, the edges have turned to a golden color.
These grip plates are extremely attractive. They are retained
by nickel plated steel rivets, having dressed heads on the obverse,
with a good attempt on the reverse. Most of the nickel plating
on the rivets remains. The scabbard is straight throughout, and
it reflects fairly good original black paint. This paint has some
wear and crazing in the surfaces, but overall, it grades at about
80% to 85%. It still looks good, and if there were a frog, it
would have to make it look even better. The blade of this example
is a mint conditioned, long variety, having wide fuller construction.
It has been personalized by a professional, who has used some
type of engraving instrument. The metal on these blades is extremely
hard, so however this was done, it would had to have been done
by a professional. The inscriptions are extremely crisp and clear,
and it very much resembles the same work as is shown in the Wayne
Techet book, on page 161. In the fuller area of the blade, the
inscription reads, Jäger Hüting No.10. Jäger
J.R. 17. Gaslar 1/H.. At the beginning and end of this,
are pennant-like symbols. Below this inscription is the date,
1938 1939. Although I do not pretend to know
the real derivation of this inscription, it would be appear that,
perhaps, Hüting could be an honorary name for a Jäger
group. The unit, though, was certainly the 10th Jäger Regiment
No.17 out of Gaslar, which is a small town south of Magdeburg.
Apparently, this was where this Regiment was garrisoned. Perhaps,
there could be some research done on this blade. It is also possible
that Hüting could be the name of the original
owner. This should be fairly easily figured out, though, by someone
familiar with the German language. This choice blade is in full
mint condition. The reverse is plain, and is stamped with the
Eickhorn squirrel trademark, used from 1935 through 1941. A very
nice item here, and very collectable, with great research possibilities
