POT #29081C LARGE DECORATIVE POLITICAL EAGLE
This Political Eagle is the style that has outstretched wings with the bird looking to the right. There is a large wreath swastika, being an open mobile type, clutched by the eagle’s claws. The piece measures approximately 15 inches in width by 9 inches in height. It is finished on both sides and appears to be made of cast iron. The eagle is mounted on a three-tiered wood base, which may or may not be original to the piece. It would look better on a marble base, but it still can be nicely displayed the way it is. A fine, original, decorative Political eagle here.
POT #29082C EARLY BRONZE POLITICAL EAGLE
This early eagle form is one of the initial designs used by Hitler and the Party. It features a stubby-winged bird with wings open, looking to the viewer’s right. The bird clutches a large wreathed mobile swastika in his talons. The bird measures 7 inches wide and about 7 ½ inches in length. This bronze casting is extremely heavy and most likely was mounted on a door or wall. The reverse of the image has two holes for mounting. A good looking item here to decorate one of your hobby storage cabinets.
Excellent Plus. $895.00
POT #29083C FRAMED AND MOUNTED BORMANN SIGNATURE
This mounted signature appears to be cut from a former Christmas card. The signature appears on the printed card beneath the Christmas greeting, “DIE BESTN WÜNSCHE/ZUR JULFEIER.” Literally, this is translated, “For best wishes for the Juletime Festival.” The signature appears over the title, “Reichsleiter M. Borman.” Bormann, of course, was the secretive behind the scenes official who had the ear of Hitler and was his most trusted ally. Bormann’s job was to report of the activities of high-ranking NSDAP members and those around Hitler. Although Bormann disappeared at the end of the war, he was finally declared officially dead in April 1973. Not an easy signature to find.
POT #29084C SIGNED HIMMLER DOCUMENT PROMOTING HANS-ADOLF PRÜTZMANN TO HEAD OF SS COUNTER ESPIONAGE UNIT
This Document was apparently executed in the field, as it is on a typed letterhead and is specified as Feld-Kommandostelle, which means a field command post on the 25th of November 1944. There was a copy of the letter sent to Prinz Albrecht-str. 8. The Document is also rubber stamped in red, “Geheim,” which, of course, means secret. The Document is also hand signed by Himmler. Prützmann was an extremely high SS Officer and policeman who operated mostly in the Ukraine area and in the eastern countries. He went on to become the head of the Werewolf Organization, as the war came to an end. For SS collectors, this should be a very special document and also an historical piece. Includes a full translation.
POT #29085C ORIGINAL HIMMLER LETTER TO DR. GÜTT
This letter is on Reichsführer stationary from Prinz Albrecht-str, and is personally signed by Himmler. The letter is addressed to Party member, Dr. Gütt. It discusses General Ludendorff and also discusses Hans Lammers, who was the head of the Reich Chancellory. Dr. Gütt was in charge of the “SS – clan book” and was responsible for devising the official direction for Himmler’s master race in his work entitled, “Law for the Prevention of Hereditary Disease in Posterity. Includes a full translation.
POT #29086C ENTIRE SS ORIGINAL RECORD FOLDER OF SS MAN KARL LAMPE, BOUND
This bound set of records covers the complete career of SS Man, Karl Lampe. Lampe joined the Waffen SS in May of 1939. He was born May 1, 1902 and, apparently, lived in the Braunsschweig area. Lampe was assigned to SS – Angehörign, however, I am unable to determine what this means. There are a lot of records here consisting of at least 25 to 30 pages, which also show Lampe being assigned to the Hermann Goering werkes. The documents run through 1944. These documents definitely need someone to translate their true meaning, but they are extremely interesting. There are a lot of signatures, initials, underlining and even a picture of Lampe in civilian dress. The records have been enclosed in a hardbound book cover, which should lead to their preservation for many years to come. An interesting SS document file here.
POT #28953C SS ORDENKISSEN FUNERAL MEDALS PILLOW
This pillow is quite impressive and I’m sure you have all seen the pictures of funerals where a pillow is held by a funeral participant which contains all of the medals and orders that were won by the decedent. This pillow measures approximately 17-inches by 19-inches. It is made of a very fine black velvet on both sides and the borders are trimmed in a black and white fairly thick cord. The cord has small loops at each corner. Sewn to the velvet of the obverse are loops which would have secured the medals and orders of the decedent. In this case there are about a dozen sets of loops. Obviously, this soldier was well decorated during his lifetime. I have never seen one of these funeral award pillows offered for sale so I feel that they are extremely rare. This pillow could make a great display item if you have a uniform or other memorabilia pertaining to someone who was lost in combat. A very interesting artifact here and just looking at it makes one wonder whether the original owner was one of the famous fighters of World War II.
POT #29011C NUREMBERG PARTY DAY PEWTER PLATE
This pewter plate is quite impressive having the standard gray finish produced by this metal. It is approximately 8-inches in diameter. Around the outside rim of the plate the symbols of all of the NSDAP organizations are uniformly placed in a shield. At the top, at 12 o’clock is the half-closed wing political eagle, at 1 o’clock is the SA runes button, at 2 o’clock is an NSFK open-winged man with swastika, at 4 o’clock is the DAF cogwheel with swastika, at 5 o’clock is a triangle with immobile swastika in the center being the symbol for the frauenschaft, at 6 o’clock is the Hitler Youth diamond with swastika, at 7 o’clock the RAD shovel with swastika, at 8 o’clock the NSKK open-winged eagle with banner, and at 10 o’clock a set of SS runes. These symbols are all raised out and are very good-looking. In the center of the plate there is a downward curved rim which has the name of the festival raised out, “Nürnberg Stadt der Reichsparteitage” or translated, “Nuremberg the City of the Reich Party Day”. In the center of the plate is an overview of the medieval roofs of Nuremberg and atop in the sky is the crest of Nuremberg being a shield device containing a half diagonal eagle with the other diagonal having downward pointing stripes on a 45 degree angle. This plate is not marked on the back but it does have the traditional triangular shaped hanging device that we normally see on German plaques. This plate was made to sell to Nuremberg rally attendees and judging by its outstanding quality and detail I am sure it sold quite well. Probably many of these plates would have been destroyed after the war but this one still survives in all of its magnificence, so a great opportunity here to decorate your hobby room wall in style!
POT #29048 WEDDING PORTRAIT OF DLV GLIDER PILOT WEARING DAGGER
This wedding photograph is in its original mounted frame with original glass. Studying the reverse of the portrait it does not appear as if the back has ever been opened. The dimensions of the portrait in the frame are 10-inches by 12-inches approximately and the portrait itself is about 9-inches by 6 ½-inches. The picture depicts the newlywed couple, the husband gazing longingly at the wife. The wife looks quite uninterested steadfast in front of her. She has a traditional wedding outfit on from the 30’s and carries a large bouquet of flowers in her arms. The DLV Glider pilot NCO is in full uniform complete with his peaked cap, tunic, trousers, belt and glider pilot knife. The glider pilot knife looks as though it is the aluminum speckled finish variety produced by F&A Helbig. His gloved hand does cover the hilt but the crossguard and scabbard with hanger are readily seen in the photograph. Also visible is the man’s World War I wound badge as well as the glider pilot belt buckle. It is very rare to see any pictures showing the glider pilot knife being worn. This is a nice example ready to hang on your wall.
POT #28792C ADOLF HITLER STREET SIGN
This Adolf Hitler street sign is the traditional blue color porcelain with white lettering over a steel base. The sign measures approximately 31-inches in length by about 6-inches in width. The sign is lettered, “Adolf Hitlerstrasse”. The double SS letters are replaced with the odd symbol used in the German language that looks like a capital B. The porcelain is perfect throughout the face of the sign showing a little bit of chipping and some rust on each of the corners. There is also a little mild rust along the lower border. The reverse of the sign is of a concave shape steel which is painted black. There is chalk writing on the back of the sign which appears to be done by the original liberating veteran. In chalk it is written, “Took off a building in Germany 1944 / by Bill Van Ryb”. I could be wrong about the spelling of the last name but this is what it appears to be. This is a fine original street sign and I must say these make great hanging material in your collecting room. I have a Hitler street sign in my cellar office and I enjoy looking at it every day and it never fails to bring a good laugh from customers that drift in. You will enjoy this one equally as well.
POT #28925C MARBLE BASE DESK ORNAMENT
This marble base desk ornament measures approximately 6 ½-inches by 3-inches and the base is composed of a creamy colored marble having some nice darker swirls running through the finish. The marble is in nearly pristine condition having only a few signs of age around the sharp corners. Affixed to the surface of the marble is a silvered replica of a K-98 rifle. Atop the rifle is a M-35 double decal army helmet. The details throughout the rifle and the helmet are extraordinary. The Wehrmacht eagle with swastika decal is clear as a bell and the national emblem on the other side is equally as nice. All of the rivets show and on the rifle it is easy to see all of the workings together with the strap. These pieces have a fine silver plated surface which was lacquered. Air has penetrated the lacquer in some areas and in other areas it has not giving the decorative pieces a somewhat “palomino” look. The original felt was missing from the bottom so we installed a new piece of felt but it looks quite good and is of a dark green color which was probably what the original looked like. A very fine original item here in great shape.
POT #28942 WOOD BASE WITH GILDED BRASS PLAQUE
This plaque measures approximately 4 ½-inches by 5 ½-inches and its base is produced of a dark colored oak. The wood has cut edges to give it a fancier appearance but its natural surface has been left in the center area being covered with a stain type material. Featured in the center is a gilded brass Iron Cross. The Iron Cross has a mobile swastika in the center and the “1939” date at the lower leg. The center area has been lined in order to distinguish it from the lighter outside borders of the cross. This cross is superimposed over a Wehrmacht eagle. This eagle looks to the viewer’s right and has half-closed wings clutching a swastika in its claws. The Iron Cross is positioned in a perfect spot so that the swastika clutched by the eagle shows between the 3 o’clock and 6 o’clock leg of the Maltese shape. At the lower is a matching brass plaque which is beautifully engraved, “Dank des Pz. Gr. Rgt. 12”. In other words, the plaque was given to Panzer Grenadier Regiment 12 in Franks. The reverse of the plaque has the traditional style German type mounts with screws holding all of the parts. At the upper area there is a hanging hole which has been strengthened with metal screwed over half of the hole for support. A very fine work of art here which appears to be hand done and possibly one of a kind.
POT #29052 CIVIL WAR NAVY COLT POWDER HORN
This powder horn goes back to the civil war and it appears to be used with the Navy Colt 6 shooter cap and ball pistol. It is made of copper and measures about 5-inches long and about 2 ½-inches wide at its widest point. The powder horn is decorated on both sides with the civil war style union eagle whereas the bird’s wings are halfway upward with his head up in the center holding a shield with the stars and stripes on it. The eagle has lightning bolts in his other talon and above the bird are rays and stars. Below the depiction there is a pair of crossed pistols. This powder horn shows a couple of very minor dents and is still in working order. The top comes off for filling the vessel and there is a spring loaded tension bar which releases the measured amount of powder that would go in to the barrel casing. A good example here in collectible condition.
POT #28793C VETERANS FLAG POLE TOP
This veteran’s flag pole top is produced of gilded brass based metal. The pole top measures about 10-inches overall. It features a circular style device in the center which is positioned over flared oak leaves and acorns. In the center of the round device is an imperial Iron Cross superimposed over a floating mobile swastika. Above the circular device there is a teardrop shape ending which has a shield in it featuring the Maltese cross with swastika in the center used by the veteran’s organization as their symbol. Surrounding the black Maltese cross is a red colored shield. On the opposite side of the pole top it shows the imperial Iron Cross from the rear as well as the veteran’s organization symbol. This flag pole top shows some normal age but basically it is all there and in good condition.
POT #28993 HITLER YOUTH SPORTS SHIRT
This Hitler Youth Sports shirt is quite attractive being in an off-white flannel material with red stripes across the breast area and a separately sewn diamond white field with black bevo mobile swastika. This shirt is in excellent condition throughout still retaining its original bright colors. There are a couple of stress holes at the neck area of the very back but they do not show from the front. This sport’s shirt is in the common “wife beater” format that we see today. At the lower portion of the reverse of the shirt there is an RZM tag which is printed for HJ and DJ and it has a run number with other printing. Below the RZM tag there is also a cloth tag with the number, “5” on it. I assume that this is the size of the shirt. A nice item here to add to your Hitler Youth collection.
POT #29012C MEIN KAMPF WEDDING EDITION
This copy of Mein Kampf is the type that was used to give out at weddings by the local Bürgermeister. This book has a fine manila style hard cover with a blue color backing. Embossed on to the blue leather backing is the title, “Mein Kampf” and above it the author, “Adolf Hitler”. Below this there is a oak leaf with two acorns. There is some other embossed writing at the bottom that probably means war time edition, the wording being, “Kriegs Ausgabe”. Inside of the book there is a postcard which maybe represents the town where the book was issued form. In the first page there is written in ink the name of the bride and groom, as well as the city name and below that the date, “24 December 1941” and a signature by the Bürgermeister. The city is, “Meiningen” as there is a rubber stamping stating this. The rest of the book looks in choice condition, largely unread as I’m sure was the case with most of the Mein Kampfs. At any rate, a highly collectible book here and in choice condition.
Near Mint. $295.00
POT #28978C 3-D ALBUM “DEM KAMPF IN WESTEN”
This 3-D book has the 3-D glasses as well as all of the inserted pictures. There are over 100 of these pictures. There is also lots of text as well as color photographs showing the Germans during their campaign of the lowland countries. This 3-D book covers the war in Holland, Belgium and France. There are some fantastic photographs of the commanders, the equipment, the cities, the local people, the artillery, motorcycles, tanks, you name it. It is a fantastic coverage of the beginning of World War II, and you can enjoy it with your own pair of glasses which literally make these pictures jump out and come to life. If you have never seen one of these 3-D books you are in for a real treat.
Excellent Plus. $495.00
POT #28958C HANDMADE GERMAN EAGLE WITH AH WITHIN WREATH
This eagle is most impressive and actually quite comical when the viewer realizes that the person within the wreath instead of the usual swastika is a fine color picture of Uncle Adolf himself. But the bird is extremely well made if you are a fan of metal work. This bird has a 12-inch wing spread and it looks to the viewer’s right. The bird is made by using a number of metal layers each one stacked on top of the other with a slight overhang. The overhanging area was used to sculpt the look of descending feathers on the wings as well as the bird’s breast. The individual metal pieces are all held together via eight rivets which are sanded flush to the metal surfaces. The eye of the bird is also a ninth rivet which was left intact. If all of this was not impressive enough there is a smooth round wreath at the bottom of the bird’s claws which has a celluloid insert and covers the face of Adolf Hitler. The wreath stays closed via four flush mount screws. These screws have nuts on the back so that I guess if the regime changed a new face could be added. This eagle is really quite comical, at least I think, and it is a very displayable artifact made in a very clever manner typical of German craftsmanship. A great piece here measuring about 12-inches wide and about 8-inches in width.
Excellent. $895.00
POT #27364C WOOD COVERED CANTEEN WITH CUP
This canteen has a special wood covering which appears to have been done with a seam running down the edges, so it is two-piece. The wood has a nice pleasing grain to it. This wood is also marked in the center within a round circle. The marking is, “DRGM / Hre41 / RR engm”. There is also a leather strap that runs around the canteen and acts to hold the aluminum cup in place. This aluminum cup also appear to be in perfect condition. There is a snap clip attached to the leather which appears to be marked, “Patter / Pitter”. A nice canteen for those of you out there collecting these. Not a common item.
Near Mint. $250.00
POT #28976C GERMAN CANTEEN WITH CUP AND STRAPS
This German canteen is covered with a fabric covering held in place by two snaps. The covering is still in nice condition and appears to be a soft cotton fabric. There are two straps which wrap about the body of the canteen from top to bottom. These leather straps are held in place with a boss button at the bottom and a buckle and hasp at the top. The olive drab colored cup is an oval shape and is firmly in place. There is also a snap hook at the back for wearing the canteen on one’s belt. There is a marking on the snap clip which appears to be, “Patent / Pitter”. This canteen is in excellent condition throughout with all pieces.
Near Mint. $150.00(#061109)
POT #28977C POST WAR 2ND MODEL LUFTWAFFE – B.& A. Soligen
These B&A Luftwaffe daggers were probably the first postwar examples which were sold to returning GI’s and also offered for sale in American magazines such as Saga and Popular Mechanics in the 1950’s. The pommel, grip, ferrule and crossguard are probably original left over parts. They have outstanding airplane gray finish and good detail throughout. These parts are still in full mint condition. The grip is one of the plaster filled types but unfortunately the mold seams which appear on both edges were never buffed off giving the grip a rather ovaled look instead of the more rounded look they have when properly finished. The grip though is still in perfect condition and it is beginning to turn a more ivory color on the obverse than the reverse. The scabbard of this example is made of black leather. The leather is sewn up the reverse and it is decorated with line decoration. The leather scabbard has a lower short lined chape fitting as well as a small upper section which double as a throat. The blade of these examples are crudely finished having a thick graining horizontally put across the blade’s three sections. The obverse is stamped in the center section, “Solingen 1939” and towards the crossguard there is a small cross which has the letters, “B&A” on the diagonals. On the reverse, the blade is stamped in the center segment, “Germany”. Despite the mentioning of “1939” it was more like “1949” that these pieces were produced. There is a fine pebbled leather washer protecting the blade. Because these were really the first parts pieces introduced after the war they do have a certain collectability. This example still remains in its original issued mint state. A nice item to add interest to a large collection.
Mint. $250.00(#061009)
POT #28971C JAPANESE MAP CASE
This Japanese map case is about 11-inches by 8 ½-inches. It is made of a hard canvas material which has seamed borders. The flap has a leather tongue area which goes through a leather slat and is held by a steel boss. The inside of the case has five custom made outer slots to contain drawing instruments. The case has inked numbers marked on the front, on the left side, “1A” and the right side, “2”. There is also a matching canvas strap which has a buckle hasp and a set of double belt loops. There are loops installed on the back of the case for a belt to secure the case on a pair of trousers. A nice item here showing some age and usage but overall in very good condition.
Excellent Plus. $150.00POT #28873C GERMAN GAS MASK CONTAINER
This gas mask container is about a foot long and maybe 4-inches round. It has fluted sides and is painted an olive drab color. All of the paint still seems to be on this canister. The lid is hinged and is held closed by a spring loaded clasp which has a length of canvas attached to it for ease of pulling. The inside of the canister has a place for the lenses to be enclosed in the lid area. Attached to the brackets is an olive drab color strapping which may or may not be original as it does not match the thickness and texture of the canvas which is attached to the opening leather. Either way, the canister is totally original and in excellent condition. There is no gas mask inside.
Excellent Plus, Plus. $115.00POT #28874C 100 SHARE STOCK CERTIFICATE (CANCELLED) FOR COLT ARMS MANUFACTURING COMPANY
This stock certificate was originally issued to Shields and Company and is certificate number, “2277”. This certificate is dated August 5, 1953 and it shows cancellation holes through the signature area. This certificate depicts the Colt logo of the horse standing on two legs with a bridle in his mouth. There is also a round circle on the certificate which depicts a hand holding lightning bolts over a pair of crossed rifles and below that a pair of crossed pistols. Around the logo is the firm’s name, “Colt’s Manufacturing Company Hartford Connecticut US America”. This would be a good item to display with a Colt pistol.
Excellent Plus. $95.00POT #28844 NSBO POLE TOP
This pole top is a fairly rare item, as the NSBO was a small organization. This organization was formed within the industrial factories and was basically made up of industrial propaganda units used to reinforce the DAF, which was technically the worker’s union. Naturally, though, the Nazi party ran everything so the NSBO was just a shell that made sure that things were done in the factories the way the NSDAP wanted it done. At any rate, this pole top is a nickel-plated, brass based, item. It features the half gear wheel with the letters, “NSBO” engraved into the wheels and having black backgrounds to make them show better. Next to the gear wheel is an arm with fist grabbing a hammer. At the top of the hammer is a raised out, immobile, swastika. The hammer is also done in black to enhance the look of the vaulted swastika. There are two end portions of this pole top, which were used to affix the item to its wooden pole. Each of the brackets has two screw holes. One bracket is deeply stamped with an open RZM circle over the number, “60.” If you are collecting pole tops, this is a difficult one to find and is in very good condition.
POT #28703C SS OFFICERS RIDING BOOTS
This set of riding boots is in superb condition and is RZM marked throughout. These are officer’s boots with outstanding supple black leather. They show some wear and are quite a large size. When comparing them to my meager foot size of 7 1/2, these things are gigantic. I would say that they are about a size 10 or 11. The soles and heels show some wear and both parts are equipped with solid metal cleats. Both the front sole cleat and heel cleat are retained via many nails so that they cannot come loose. The sole area, which is protected by the heel, is deeply stamped with a circle containing SS Runes and next to this is the code number that appears to be “193/38.” Next to that, is a single open circle with RZM inside. There is a separate stamping below the area, “6 44.” This may well be the date the boots were made. These same marking appear on the soles of both boots. Inside the leather tops, there is a set of black pull straps enabling the wearer to pull the top of the boots up on to his calves. These straps are in excellent condition throughout both boots, showing little to no wear. Additionally, deeply stamped on the inside area of the front section of each boot is an open SS circle with code, “193/38” and RZM within an open circle. This code matches the stamping on the lower soles. If you are outfitting an SS officer uniform, I can’t imagine a better set of boots. These boots are in exceptional condition and are very supple. They will easily shine up to a great finish if the next owner would like to do this. A rare opportunity here to acquire clothing items seldom seen. Obviously, after the war these kinds of things were often worn out and therefore, few original boots still exist. A great SS item here!
POT #28591 REGIMENTAL TABLE STANDARTE
This standarte comes from the imperial days and it represents the 187th infantry regiment. This regiment apparently had reunions in the early years between the great war and the beginnings of the Third Reich times. During the reunion, of course, there was always a large dinner to celebrate the occasion. There were standartes made up to commemorate the regiment and they were in a size that could be used to stand at the head of a table. Assumedly the ranking officer or former commander would be seated at this spot. This particular standarte is most beautiful being double-sided and made of all silk. It has remarkable applied cross and other details respective of the regiment. The standarte itself measures approximately 10-inches by 10-inches and has a 1-inch gold bullion fringe. The standarte was probably white silk when it was new but it has today faded to a most attractive cream color. The silk is in perfect condition on both sides. The standarte is divided into quadrants. Each quadrant has a city symbol which is all hand done. The city symbols are absolutely remarkable in the detail that is rendered in thread. The women who made this were unbelievably expert in their craft. In the one corner at the left is a two-headed eagle with spread out claws having a crest on his belly. The crest is shield shaped with a white top and red lower area. The crest on the right quadrant is shield shaped and has a beautiful bullion silvered key. I happen to know that this key represents the city of Breman. At the lower left quadrant is a shield showing two blue colored lions with tails swirling on the left side and at the right side a crown over some star-like device. Again the thread work is incredible. The lower right quadrant is a bull all made of thread. This animal has horns at the top and in the center of this head, a beautiful imperial crown. I do not know which city this represents but some of you out there certainly may. In the center of the standarte though is the largest of the crests and this shows a remarkably detailed castle on a red background. There are two turrets on each side of the castle and in the center a dome with a cross on the top. A very large door is at the bottom. This crest represents the city of Hamburg. Once again, the local ladies have done a fabulous job with the intricate thread work. The Hamburg crest is surrounded by a large sprig of oak leaves and acorns. They really look splendid with their bright green colors attached to the cream base. Beautiful work here. But that is only one side of the standarte. On the other it is the regimental copy of the standarte that would have been carried at wartime. This also has a cream colored silk base with black arrow-like quadrants. In the center is the Prussian eagle clutching a sword in one talon and lightning bolts in the other. The bird is crowned and has a red flickering tongue with his wings spread at about three quarters open. On top is the slogan, “Pro Gloria et Patria”. This slogan is in a ribbon banner and the entire depiction is surrounded in a wreath of laurel leaves. The detail is unbelievable. At the top there is the name of the club organization, “Verein ehem. / Angeböriger”. The bottom is the host city, “Hamburg”. On the east and west quadrants there is the abbreviation of the regiment, “I.-R. 187”. The detail, colors, artwork, skill, everything one can imagine that could be done by hand exists in this most beautiful miniature standarte. Accompanying this standarte are two streamers. One of the streamers is dated, “12-13 VII 1930”, and the other streamer is just dated, “1933”. These streamers have remembrances of the reunion and the 187th infantry regiment. There is also a crest on both streamers which seems to be very similar to the crest at the lower left of the standarte having the two sets of lions. These streamers are just as well done as the standarte being lined with cord and having matching gold fringe. It may have been that every time that a reunion occurred a streamer was produced. Possibly some of these have been lost to time but at least there are two that accompany the standarte. The original hoist pole was still with this standarte but we had to construct a cross rod to hold the top as well as put a base on the bottom of the original pole to support the standarte. At least now it can be properly shown. A very fine item here and a great thing to highlight your collection.
POT #28678C BRITISH SAILOR’S COMMERATIVE BRASS DEATH MEDALLION
This medallion is of all solid brass and measures approximately 4 ¾-inches round. It is quite heavy and very substantially made. I am guessing that it is British and I also feel that it is for a naval person basically because of the motif that is shown on the medallion. The medallion features a female with a nautical appearance. She is carrying a trident in one hand and in the other hand there is wear to the medallion and it is difficult to tell. There are two fish which surround her and there is also a lion standing at her feet. At the right of the medallion there is a rectangular box which has the raised name, “Joseph Coady”. Around the inside rim of the medallion it says, “He died for freedom and honour”. I may be wrong about the country here but if so I stand to be corrected. A nice item here and perhaps a good decoration with some other British militaria.
POT #28634C CLEAR GLASS BEER STEIN
This clear glass beer stein holds about 1 liter of beer and has an etched marking, “5/1.0.L”. The glass is in good shape except for a tiny chip at the inside rim at about the 3 o’clock section of the top. The front of the beer stein has a decal with touched up painted area having a wreath of laurel leaves. These leaves are in green and have red berries with a black, white and red bow at the bottom. In the center is a World War I Iron Cross. The Iron Cross shows outstanding detail throughout and features the Prussian crown at the top, the letter, “W” in the center and the date, “1914”, being the year the Iron Cross was instituted for World War I. This would be a nice item to dress up some imperial artifacts.
POT #28637C LARGE ADOLF HITLER PORCELAIN STREET SIGN
This porcelain street sign is larger than we usually see them and it also has a rather unusual brown color porcelain instead of the usual blue color. It is a great-looking item measuring about 34-inches in length and about 8-inches in width. In white block letters it has the name, “Adolf Hitler. Str.”. Around the name is a white matching border which curves inward at each of the four mounting holes – one in each corner. There is a little bit of rust here and there on the obverse surfaces but it is mostly confined to the edges. The reverse of the sign is a black color and it has a number of age pits and rust spots but nothing which is threatening the obverse of the sign. As is usually the case the sign is slightly beveled outward having a convex shape. This is a great opportunity to decorate the room where you house your collection. Just like any conquerors in history, once the areas were under their control, the main streets and plazas were named after the rulers and generals who did the feat. A fine original unusual example here.
POT #28635C SET OF SIX NSDAP FUNERAL CELLULOID CANDLE CUPS
These small candle cups were used for NSDAP funerals and there would have been a candle put in the base of each one and they were apparently used to decorate the coffin or the area surrounding it. These cups are about 3-inches high and at the lip are about 2 ¾-inches in width. They are a bright red color having a cardboard base. At the obverse is a white round field with a mobile black swastika. The swastika and field appears to have possibly been spray painted onto the side of the cup. These are original items and it is the first time that I have seen them and thought they were quite interesting to offer for sale.
POT #28399C THEATRE PROGRAM FOR “DIE ORESTIA”
This theatre program is for the state theatre production which was held during the 1936 Olympics of the Greek play, “Die Orestia”. The program measures about 9 ¾-inches by 7-inches having a cover of manila with brown print. The cover reads, “Staats – Theater / Berlin” and then there’s an open-winged party eagle and swastika below this. At the bottom is printed, “Schouspielhaus / Bendarmenmarst”. The play “Die Orestia” was originally done by the Greeks and the Germans revised the theme to show the German people as a master race over all others. This play was extremely controversial and was resented by many of the world visitors as it was run during the Berlin Olympics. The program is very interesting as it has pictures of the German actors and actresses as well as the details of who played what in the cast, etc. There also some interesting adds in the program. The back cover, in fact, features an add for the latest Mercedes Benz automobile. There are a total of 22 pages in the booklet. If you are interested in learning more of the controversy that went on you can Google this play and find out more about it. The original play written by the Greek Aeschylus was completely distorted by the Nazis to portray an enlightened democracy reduced to a struggle between Aryans and the “Untermenschen”. We can just imagine the trouble that this must have caused for a world attending public interested in the Olympic games and having to endure much of the Nazi policies as this was Hitler’s chance to showcase his country throughout the world. I believe that this is a very rare program and should be of interest to people that collect books and literature.
POT #17730 CAPTURED GERMAN WRIST WATCH
This captured German wrist watch comes from a veteran source. It still runs very well. The watch is made with a stainless steel casing having an attractive black face with a second hand in a circle at the bottom. The maker’s name marked on the watch face is, “Grana”. On the reverse of the case it is stamped, “Stahlboden” and then it also has the serial number, “D488241”. This watch is missing the leather strap but that’s all it would need and you could start to wear it to shows or put it on to a mannequin. A very nice period watch here.
POT #17731 CAPTURED GERMAN POCKET WATCH
This captured German pocket watch still functions. It almost looks like a combination wrist watch and pocket watch as the center insert of the pocket watch is about the size of a wrist watch. I don’t know how this configuration works but it does have a standard winding mechanism at the top just like a normal pocket watch would. The face is a gold color and is marked with the name, “Ingraham”. There is no second hand on this watch. The case looks as though it was painted black at one time but most of the paint is gone to time. The mechanism at the top and also the rim which runs around the circumference appears to be stainless steel. An interesting captured watch here.
POT #17732 CAPTURED GERMAN POCKET WATCH
This silver pocket watch is very slim and is quite attractive, having floral decoration running around its circumference edge. The reverse has a panel with lined designs and an ovaled circle for the purpose of a monogram which was never done. The face of the watch is an attractive silver color and it has a second hand built into a circle at the bottom. The watch runs well. The face has the name, “Mutha”. I took a look inside of the first watch case in the back and the case is marked, “800” along with the hallmark signs of a crescent and a Prussian crown. The letters, “M&M” appear above and there also are a number of repair men’s scratchings within the case. I did not open the inner case as I do not know how to do this without scratching something. This is a fine watch and a nice item here coming from a veteran source.
POT #28535 CARL EICKHORN VEHICLE LOG BOOK
This vehicle log book is rather interesting to look through and probably was used by the person who picked up parts for Carl Eickhorn using their company truck. Like any business it was necessary to keep records of company vehicles. This log book covers the year 1948. Granted it is after the war but it is still interesting to look at the different places where the truck was sent. There are names such as , “Ohligs, Godesburg, Köhn”, etc. The driver was mostly someone by the name of “Hermann”. There are about a dozen pages which are filled out representing this man’s trips. There is a loose leaf manila cover over the printed book which has the embossed name of the firm, “Eichorn” and above it is the logo used at that time consisting of a diamond shaped target having an arrow piercing the bull’s eye. An interesting little book here to add to an Eichorn memorabilia collection.
POT #28537 GERMAN ARMY SERVICE MANUAL FROM 1941
This Army service manual has a soft cover in red and has 312 pages. It covers everything from the flags of the heads of the army to how to stand at attention. There is even a page on how to tie your troddel. This book is amazing giving all the different ranks, insignia, how to shoot a rifle, how to goose step, you name it. There is even automobile and motorcycle mechanics drawings. A very interesting book here.
Excellent. $150.00
POT #28538 GERMAN PIONEER’S SERVICE MANUAL FROM 1935
This Pioneer’s manual has a gray soft cover and it measures about 6-inches by 4-inches. It is 444 pages in length and has all kinds of interesting drawings and details on how to make signs, build bridges, build floating mechanisms, tying ropes, etc., etc. A fantastic book here.
POT #28473 IMPERIAL EAGLE MOTIF PEWTER WATER PITCHER
This water pitcher is about 14-inches high with a base diameter of about 6 1/2-inches. It is an interesting design having an eagle portrayed from the front with open wings. At the upper portion of the eagle’s head the lid splits at the beak where the top is hinged and opens up. The eagle is the Prussian Hohenzollern type having a crest in the breast area. The wings are vaulted outward from the pitcher as is the feathering and outstretched talons. The head of the bird is also nicely vaulted outward at the pitcher’s spout. This is a well made item that could not only be decorative in your home but that also could be put to use serving water or beer. The bottom of the vessel is marked, “Kayserzinn”. Above this is the stamping, “15” and below the stamping, “4015”. This is a good one for your hobby room as your wife will probably like this pitcher also.
POT #28394C SET OF TWO GERMAN DOCUMENTS
These two German documents are quite interesting and would be nice with an appropriate collection. The first document is actually a marriage certificate issued on July 21, 1939 and signed by the local Burgermeister. The second document is a ticket which allows the holder into a general NSDAP meeting for the citizenry. This meeting was held on November 15, 1942 and represented the gal of Berlin Kreis III. An interesting ticket here to be sure.
POT #28374C MAUSER RIFLE MUZZLE COVER
This muzzle cover is a steel item which goes onto the back of a K-98 rifle and has a cap which clips over the rifle hole. I guess it was meant to keep water or other foreign matter out of the barrel of a rifle. If you can use this it is an original item having serial number “9389”.
POT #28376C SET OF 11 DISCHARGE BUTTONS
These discharge buttons run from the Civil War up to the present time. There is even one from the Spanish American War. There are a total of 11 buttons here that I would like to sell as a set.
POT #28371C PAIR OF LUFTWAFFE LEATHER GAUNTLETS
These gauntlets are both in excellent condition being made of soft gray leather. Both gloves have the proper adjustment straps with snaps. They have the Luftwaffe property markings within them. One is marked, “9 6/90 2205V”. The other gauntlet is marked , “9 ½ 8/86 1162V”. A nice pair of gauntlets here, both being the same size and the same color.
POT #28027 SERIES OF NINE PHOTO NEGATIVES OF GERMAN SOLDIERS
This series of negatives contains each photograph within a paper sleeve. Written on the paper sleeve in most cases is the name of the soldier as well as the date. These negatives were found in the drawers of an old photographer in Sweden. Most of the photographs are dated 1943. There are photographs of Army, Naval and Luftwaffe personnel. Quite interesting stuff here, and you could easily develop these negatives for first-rate portrait pictures. They measure about 6¾” by about 5”. A great little grouping.
POT #27987C WEHRPASS TO ERNST SORG
This Wehrpass is loaded with lots of information about the solider Ernst Sorg. This man was an artilleryman who was from Baden. I do not know how to read these Wehrpasses, but this one appears to go up to about the year 1942 and the recipient was from Baden and was awarded the 2nd class Iron Cross. There is also a picture of this man, which is retained by two rivets. He has a small little Hitler mustache, making him look rather comical. There is a ton of papers that go together with this Wehrpass. It is stamped on the front “Herr” and it appears as though there was an obliteration of the eagle and swastika on the cover; however, the obliteration is wearing off and the bird and swastika are still visible. Lots of papers to study here!
POT #27986C WEHRPASS TO PAUL GERBIG
This Wehrpass was issued to Paul Gerbig, who I believe was with the Luftwaffe. It is hard to say, as there are also some naval style entries in this Wehrpass. The Wehrpass contains Gerbig’s photo and lots of information. He was in the service until 1945. Lots to look at here and lots to study.
POT #28121 TRENCH ART ARTILLERY SHELL
This artillery shell is probably British or American, but I do not know the calibers that probably those of you that are familiar with these things could tell. It is marked on the reverse firing end “75 DE C/H.1078L 17 H”. The shell itself is of all brass, of course, and is a little over 13 inches in length. The bottom half of the shell has somehow been twisted to give a very unique look, having slat-like characteristics at the lower end all on a 45° angle. The upper portion of the shell has been all hand-hammered and on one side there is a propellor with wings. This, to me, would indicate that the shell was probably made to commemorate an airman’s service time. There is also an ellipse area which has been left plain, possibly for engraving of a name or unit. A pretty nice looking artifact here, and I am sure it would be a good display piece in the right collecting room.
Excellent Plus. $125.00
POT #27978C GERMAN MESS KIT
This mess kit does not seem to be matched, as the can opener and knife have a stainless steel look to them and the spoon and fork have more of an aluminum finish. The spoon and fork are marked “681". The can opener is marked “06" and has an eagle and swastika stamped into its surface. The knife piece does not have any markings. Still, a good example which, no doubt, came back like this.
POT #28242C PORTRAIT AND PAINTED BANNER GROUPING OF UNITED STATES SERGEANT HERMAN J. MISCHKE
This grouping consists of a large banner painted on canvas by a German POW. The POW apparently painted the banner for his capture, Sergeant Herman J. Mischke. There is also a portrait of Sergeant Mischke which comes with the banner. I do not know much about American units, but on the banner there is a large eagle which is holding a star which has patches on all 5 of the points. I recognized the big red one as one of the patches, but there are others which consist of a tank, a shield with a horse on it, a 7 pointed star with the roman numeral “VII” in it and also a downward pointing arrow which has chain links next to it. Surrounding the star and army patches are mountains, a battleship under fire and in the center is Sergeant Herman J. Mischke’s name block lettered. The canvas is signed “P.W.V. Kopic 1945". Below this is the word “Hrvatska” and also something that resembles a Croatian symbol. This painted canvas is about 36 inches wide by about 48 inches high. A long with the canvas is a period framed portrait of Sergeant Mischke. The portrait appears to have been done in pastels and it is extremely well executed. The Sergeant has his stripes on his shirt and wears a patch which appears to be a pussycat over some type of equipment. Once again, the American collectors out there can probably readily identify the purposes of all of this. The portrait of the Sergeant is about 12 inches by 14 inches and with the overall frame and mounting, it is 19 inches by 21 inches. A nice grouping here which definitely needs research. If this canvas were framed, it would make a great centerpiece for an American collection.
POT #27764C ORIGINAL SS HONOR RING AWARD DOCUMENT
This original
honor ring award document is the printed form used when an honor
ring was awarded to any SS personnel. Although the document is
pre-printed, the signature of Himmler is personally done in ink
and the date, address, name and rank of the recipient was typed
onto the top. This document has it all. It is dated 28 June
1940" and was sent to the Führerhauptquartier.
This would be the place where Hitler was conducting the war which,
in June 1940, would have been in Berlin, right around the time
of the French occupation. The document is awarded to SS-Hauptsturmführer
Bihler Emil. Beneath this is Bihlers SS number and
his assignment ss-Nrp. 253 754, Führer im Stab ss-Abschnitt
XXVIII. This would indicate that Bihler was assigned as
a leader of the staff in the 28th SS Abschnitt. Original
honor ring documents are extremely rare. Along with this document,
there is also a translation of the verbiage contained within the
document. This is a great opportunity to acquire an important
SS addition to your collection.
POT #27766C LETTER FROM KURT DALUEGE TO HIMMLER AND RETURN LETTER FROM HIMMLER TO DALUEGE
These two letters
are quite interesting, as they are thank you letters between two
of Germanys infamous SS police commanders. The first letter
is on the stationery of Kurt Daluege as Prussian Minister of the
Interior and General of the Prussian police and the Lands police.
He addresses the letter to Himmler and goes on to thank Himmler
for giving him the SS honor ring. The letter is dated in early
January 1934. The letter is signed by Daluege and is completely
hand-written, using the old sutterlerlin style handwriting. The
letter also has the penciled initials HH at the top,
an indication that Himmler received the letter and indeed read
it. The next letter is from Himmler coming out of the Munich office
on 12 January 1934. Himmler addresses the letter to Daluege and
in the first paragraph calls him his good friend and congratulates
him on a happy new year and hopes for a great year for 1934. Further
down in the letter, he expresses his gratitude that Daluege is
happy with his SS ring. The letter is initialed by Himmler in
ink. These two letters show a warm relationship between these
two people. Somehow, honor among thieves is the only
interpretation I can think of, but, historically, these are a
couple of important letters. I am sure there are many SS collectors
out there who would love to add these letters to their files.
POT #24814 PRUSSIAN IMPERIAL SHOOTING AWARD BREASTPLATE / NECKLACE
This Shooting
Award breast plate is quite good looking, featuring a circular
silver, medallion-like plate measuring about 4 ½ inches
at the diameter. The plate has beaded borders making a rim. Atop
the silver plate is a Prussian Crown, which is highly detailed
with open finials with a cross above. In the inner area of the
medallion is a gilded brass, crowned Prussian eagle carrying a
scepter, an orb, and also some type of shooting crest featuring
smaller crossed rifles over a sword. The crowned Prussian eagle
is superimposed over the triple overlapping wreath of oak leaves.
At the lower portion of the plate, is a set of shooting style
rifles, also in gilded brass and with a crossed over, ribbon-like
image. At the bottom of the medallion is a silver pendant, to
which is attached a crest. This crest is quite beautiful, featuring
an arch of five castle turrets, each having notched tops with
a clear stonework construction image. Below the turrets are a
set of silvered crossed Roman-like swords. These are seated atop
a field-like silver cross, which is vaulted in the center. Engraved professionally into the crest is the following award SIEGER/der./ScheibenschÜtzen/in/BurgerschÜtzenverein/
Schwerte/anno 1436. The gist of this award, it was for the
Winner of the Shooting Contest in the Shooting Club of Schwerte,
which was established in 1436. The reverse of the shield is hallmarked,
Handarberit/Grafe/800. This, of course, indicates
that the item has been made by hand, and is produced from 800
silver. The reverse of the medallion above, is marked, 18.
Attached to the medallion is a chain for the winner to wear this
item around his neck. The chain links also appear to be silver
throughout. There are 44 of these silver links with connectors.
This is a great display item for the collector of Hunting, Forestry,
Shooting pieces. Choice condition here, and quite a rare, unique
item.
POT #26676C BOAR TUSK CIGAR CUTTER
This
boar tusk cigar cutter is great for the guy who wants to sit home
in his rec room and cut his own cigars. It makes a beautiful table
adornment, especially with some other hunting related items. The
tusk is a little over five inches and curves to a point at the
end. The opposite end is fitted with a 925 Hallmark
silver cigar clipper. There is also the Hallmark of the circle
with points around it which was the logo of the Pfilring
werke firm. This firm made a lot of cigar clippers, as I
have seen some in the past. This is an outstanding example here,
and a quality item. It would be a fine addition to a forestry
hunting collection.
POT #25403 CASED SET OF BINOCULARS
The case for
these binoculars is of all black leather. There are two side mouted
d rings which would have accommodated a leather strap.
There is a short leather strap with roller buckle on one side,
but the other portion of the strap has gone to time. The front
portion of the case has a spring loaded catch which is attached
to the lid. There are some markings on the outer portion of the
catch, but they are slightly rusted and I cant make out
what they are. The black leather lid lifts up and on the rim of
the case below the lid area is the date, 1942". There
is also an open-winged eagle and swastika waffenamt. Both of these
markings are pressed into the leather. The case inside is a brown
color leather and it is padded so that the binoculars stay in
place once the lid is put down. The binoculars themselves are
a black color with the right side of them having a grainy surface
and the left side having a smooth surface. Looking through the
optics, they appear to be okay. On the left upper area of the
binoculars is the stamping "beh". This code indictates the glasses
were made by Ernst Leitz of the Wetzler firm, which exists todays as
Leica.
Below this stamp are the letter "KE", which means that these binoculars
were specially prepared for cold weather use. Also visible on this side is
an inscribed circle. This circle indicates the glasses were constructed
to the very high tolerences, so highthat these glasses are quite rare.
On the right side there is also some old stampings; the right top housing plate
is marked "Dienstglas", and beneath this, is the number"7x50" which is the
rated size of the glasses. There is also an additional word printed below that
looks like, 38A, but I cannot make out the rest of the numbers.
These binoculars show overall age and wear, but they are still
in collectible condition and definitely are WWII vintage.
POT #27526 PORCELAIN ROUND SIGN OF NSDAP PARTY OFFICE
This porcelain
sign is the first of its type that I have seen. It is 13
round and is made just like a regular street sign in that it is
a steel base with porcelain enamel coating. It is also domed in
the center. It depicts the NSDAP Party Badge only on a large scale.
No doubt, this sign marked the office of the Nazi Party in a given
town. In the center is a white field and within the field is a
mobile swastika. It is interesting to note that the legs of the
swastika have in and out wavy lines. These do not show from a
distance and apparently, was the way the sign maker thought it
would be best to portray the swastika when looking at it from
a distance away. The border of the round sign is a red background
with white capital letters NATIONAL-SOZIALISTISCHE-DAP.
The name of the producer of the sign appears in black letters
below, although most of the producers name has gone to rust.
Obviously, this NSDAP Party Sign would make a great addition to
your collecting room.
POT #26405C GERMAN STOPWATCH IN ORIGINAL CASE
This stopwatch
is a very nice item which still runs perfectly. The watch itself
has a white face with double sets of black and red numbers. In
addition to the sweep second hand, there is also a smaller hand
which keeps track of the minute count. At the lower portion of
the watch face it is marked swiss. The watch appears
to be made of nickel and it shows some usage, but is still in
good condition. The watch fits into a custom-made nickel case
having a celluloid face at the obverse. The case has built-in
side springs to keep the watch firmly in place inside. The celluloid
face has quite a bit of yellowing from age and scratching across
the surfaces, but it is still transparent. The top of the case
is marked with the manufacturer name Primus. The reverse
of the watch case has the stamping 23. A nice item
to display with other German militaria.
POT #26797 SILVERED AUSTRIAN ANSCHLOSS CHALICE
This impressive
chalice is about 9 inches in height and has an opening at the
top cup measuring about 3½ inches. The chalice itself has
a flared out style stand which runs about two-thirds of the length
of the piece. This stand is rimmed with the area getting larger
under each rib section. The base itself measures about 3½
inches in diameter. There is a small marking on this base which
is stamped argentor. The face of the upper portion
of the chalice is in a cup shape. This face is engraved with a
large mobile swastika at the top. The swastika has a beading inside
of the engraving which gives it a deluxe finish. Below the swastika
is a four-line dedication 13.OMÄRZ 1938/DER TAG DES
UMBRUCHES IN OSTERREICH.UNSER GROSSER WUNSCH IST ERFÜLLT./SCH.G.(ALTPENZING).
This dedication, roughly translated, would mean that The
13th OF MARCH 1938, THE DAY OF OUR UPHEAVAL IN AUSTRIA AND THE
GREAT HAPPINESS WITH ITS COMPLIANCE and then the lower line
must refer to possibly a school in Austria, but I dont know
this for sure. The essence of the cup is that it is celebrating
the alliance of Austria with Germany in March of 1938. This is
a great display piece and would be an important artifact for those
collecting Anschloss memorabilia. There also could be research
done on this school, Altpenzing, to find out exactly what its
position was during this exciting time. A great piece here!
POT #19274 UNITED STATES ONE-OF-A-KIND MODEL JEEP
This very well
done, carved and painted jeep was apparently made by a United
States Army soldier, who must have been connected with a machine
shop of some sort. The jeep measures a little over 7 inches in
length, and features all accurate detail throughout. The jeep
is painted olive drab of course, and has its driver and passenger
front seat and two or three passenger back seat, as well as a
gerry can on the back with spare tire. The hood is decorated with
a star and marked "USA" on both sides and the serial
number, "427693". The bumper is painted white and is
marked, "USF HC 24BPO4". The grill and headlights are
actually painted into the surface. The back bumpers are marked,
"USF" on one side and, "BPO4" on the other,
all in black paint. The detaled tires are made of painted wood
and are retained with axles and nuts. An extremely well made scaled
model, which even features a steering wheel, gear shift and lever
for engaging four-wheel drive. A definite must for the U.S. Military
collector or those interested in jeeps.
POT #19995 BLUE LEATHERETTE PRESENTATION BOX WITH SILVER HALLMARKED PICTURE FRAME
This very beautiful
set was brought back from the war by 82nd Airborne T-4 Sergeant
Max Fine, and comes with paper attesting to this fact. The artifact
was discovered in the Reichschancellory at the end of the war.
The presentation box measures approximately 12 inches by 15 inches
with a depth of 2 inches. The blue leatherette covering has fine
graining, and shows only nominal wear throughout. One of the scallop
shaped, shell-like, catches is missing, but the other is intact.
They are both brass and have holes, which go over pins. The lid
lifts upward from the front. The inside lid is a beautiful white
silk, having padding within. The bottom section of the case is
a dark blue velvet, having a cut out which recesses the silver
frame. The frame measures approximately 10 x 11 and 1/2 inches
and is approximately 1/2 inch thick. This silver frame is hallmarked,
"800" along with maker symbols. The reverse of the frame
is fitted with leatherette sliding mounts, which would retain
a photograph. Also there is a standing flap device attached. The
backing is retained through the use of four silver clips held
by screws. The top half of the retainage portion is hinged. Although
there was no photograph in this presentation package when liberated,
it does have a printed example of Grand Admiral Raeder currently.
This may or may not have been the original purpose of the device,
but the fact remains it was found in the Reichschancellory, and
was definitely produced for the photograph of a most important
individual. This frame and box are very collectable in their own
right and would add greatly if someone possessed an original autographed
Raeder or perhaps Admiral Dönitz photograph. It is also worth
mentioning that I have an original Raider autographed photograph
period mounted in a nearly identical silver frame, the only difference
being, it is about one inch bigger all around.
POT #26532 GERMAN ARMY LEG GUARDS?
I am really
not sure what these items are, but there a pair of them. They
are a green canvas material and look to have been strapped around
the legs or arms. There is a black leather border at the top edge
and there are two short straps with two matching leather and buckle
hasps on the opposite end. These items measure about 14 inches
in length. They are both stamped with an RB number which looks
like RB Nr. 0/0500/5793. I could be wrong on this
number, however. Whatever these items are, they are in excellent
condition and do not appear to have been issued.
POT #26666 US SPORT CONVERTED BAYONET WITH LEATHER SHEATH
This old bayonet
looks as though it was cut down from its original length and also
the mortise button and lock were removed. The grips are oak wood
and they are retained by two rivets. These grips are also marked
with initials ks done with an amateur knife. The blade
has a groove running down its length to the tip, and that is why
I think it has been cut down. The blade measures 8.5 inches in
length. It is filled with rust and old grease. One side of the
ricasso is stamped US and the other side is stamped
1903". The bayonet is in a leather sheath which looks
to have been hand made. This sheath has rawhide seams and is retained
by brass style rivets. It definitely looks like something that
was used as a hunting weapon. If it appeals to you, good luck
with it, it will probably clean up some.
POT #26679C "3-POINT" SILVER ANTLER CANDLE HOLDER
This piece
is an interesting example of German craftsmanship. I believe it
was produced in the 1950s, though, not pre-war. It consists
of 3-Points from a rack of antlers, which have been trimmed to
perfectly balance as a stand. At the bottom of the antlers, (or
at the top in this case), there is a silver fitting which has
been shaped to the formation, which houses a saucer-like upper
portion to secure a candle. This housing is of gilded silver and
it is marked, Handarbeit, which of course, means handmade,
and below this is the silver quantity, 925, and the
German hallmarks for silver consisting of a crescent and clover-like
device, and something else which I do not recognize. Beneath this
is stamped, Sterling. I believe that these markings
would indicate post-war manufacture, but still pretty nice material
here. The candleholder is complete with a good thick wax candle,
that is ready to light. A good decorator piece here for your Hunting
Forestry collection.
POT #26389C HALF-LITER METTLACH STEIN
This Mettlach
Stein is the smaller size, being half-liter. It displays a fine
looking tan color material, with a blue center, and having white
figures raised out of the blue. It has the look of English Wedgewood
china. The figures consist of men, who appear to be huntsmen,
sitting at a table. Another stands, with what looks to be a trumpet,
and yet another, appears to be doing something with bowling-like
balls. There is also a figure, which appears to be sharpening
a tool on a stone, and a seated figure on a barrel. The Stein
is equipped with a pewter-bordered lid, which has a German smoking
pipe raised out of the top, in the cream color with blue background.
This Stein is in perfect condition throughout. On the bottom it
is marked, Villeroyn goch Mettlach. There are also
some factory markings at the bottom, 11 and 03.
A fine Stein here, which even your wife will like!
POT #26554 DLV PRESENTATION CUP
This small
DLV Presentation Cup measures approximately 2 ½ inches
in height, and is about 1 inch thick. It appears to be a shot
glass device. It has a nice shape to it, and a very pleasing look.
The obverse of the cup has a beautiful DLV enameled insignia applied.
It consists of a winged mobile swastika, that has a propeller
behind it. The swastika is composed of black enamel. Some of the
enamel is missing at the lower leg, but it is not bad. In the
background is a circle having red enamel, which really highlights
this insignia. Below the insignia is the 4-line presentation,
Dem Senior/des Sonderlehrgangs/Heeressportschule Wunsdorf/Januar
1935. This presentation would basically mean, The
cup was given to a Senior Instructor from the Flying Sports School
at Wunsdorf on January, 1935. On the reverse of the cup,
there is another applied insignia. It looks to be possibly the
logo of the air formation. It seems to have stylized letter, ROTR.
Below this is an expression, Alle Achtung, alter Löwe!.
This seems to translate, Move Along old Lion, which
would be an appropriate statement to make to a very favored retiree.
The bottom of the cup is hallmarked with a lion, a crown, and
835. After this, there are some small initials, which I cant
make out, and then the word, Chevalier. A very nice
item here, which is extremely attractive, and would look dynamite
next to a DLV dagger or other DLV insignia.
POT #26524 ADOLPH HITLER LIKENESS PLAQUE
This Plaque
is of A.H. himself, in a bust pose from the chest upward. The
Füehrer looks to the right, with a pensive expression on
his face. The detail to his parted hair and straight comb-over,
eyebrows, and tooth-brush mustache is excellent. This plaque appears
to be made of a zinc material. It measures about 13 inches high,
and about 10 inches wide. The Füehrer wears his NSDAP Party
shirt with tie, and has his Party insignia as a tie pin. The swastika
does not show in the wreath, as I guess the casting is not crisp
enough to do this. The Füehrer wears a cross strap and has
buttoned flap pockets. The reverse of the plaque has a couple
of brackets, which would have been used for mounting purposes.
The plaque shows a little bit of age, and there is a small surface
blemish at Adolphs right cheek. Other than this, a good
display piece here.
POT #26408C JAPANESE TROPICAL TROUSERS
This set of
Japanese trousers is in olive-drab cotton. They are complete with
all of the buttons, and the original waist-tie sash. The man I
got these trousers from, stated that they were retrieved from
a Philippine supply dump at the end of the war. These pants are
in choice mint condition, and appear to have never been issued.
POT #27730 SMALL ALUMINUM RAILWAY EAGLE WITH ORIGINAL MOUNTING BRACKET
This aluminum
railway eagle is one of the smallest I have seen. It only measures
15½ inches with the wings spread and is about 10 inches
high. The eagle has outstanding detail throughout and is looking
to the viewers left. It looks as though the surfaces of
the eagle may have been painted with aluminum paint but, if so,
this was done a long time ago. Additionally, the wreath which
the eagle is grasping in his talons has a red background in the
center area and where the raised out swastika is positioned, the
surfaces have been painted black. Once again, this paint looks
very old. On the reverse, there are places for bolts at each wing
span and there is also an aluminum rod which has been bolted to
previous holes in the reverse of the eagle to accommodate an aluminum
mounting rod. This rod could be taken off easily enough if the
next owner did not want it, but I left it here just to add to
the interest of the piece. The reverse of the eagle is deeply
marked in the lower wreath area W.C.P.. I have no
idea what these initials stand for, but this absolutely an original,
rarely seen train eagle which will look great in the next owners
collection.
POT #25909C FRAMED PORTRAIT OF A KRIEGSMARINE SAILOR
This Framed
Portrait is very well done, being a professional photographers
mount. The overall frame measures approximately 14 inches by 11
inches. The frame is the original example. There is a matte inside,
which has the original name of the photographer, Brande/bourg-Leopold.
In the center is an outstanding professional photograph, which
measures 9 inches by 6 ½ inches. This black and white photo
depicts a seaman in his uniform, complete with sailor cap. The
uniform is the dark navy blue color, with the flap on the back.
The Kriegsmarine eagle shows on the breast area, but the swastika
is slightly obliterated, because of the distance away from the
lens. The cap, though, shows outstanding, and the Kriegsmarine
eagle at the top is fairly clear, as is the Reich Cocaide below.
At the band is a silk example, which has the standard lettering,
Kriegsmarine. The sailor has a fine off-in-the-distance-type-look
on his face, and appears to be seriously thinking of the Füehrers
victory for World War II. The sailor depicted in the photograph
is a dead-ringer for well-known collector and dealer, Gailen David.
Gailen looks to be about 20 years old in this photograph. I did
not know him then, but I did know him when he was probably about
30 years old, as we have known each other for at least three decades.
If there is such a thing as reincarnation, it has happened here!
An interesting photograph here, even if you dont know Gailen
David.
POT #26361C "RAFT" DESIGN ASHTRAY
This fine historic
ashtray is made of a fired earthen type and it measures about
six and one-half inches in length. It is in an oval design in
the shape of a rubber raft. The ashtray commemorates the successful
escapades of Army Infantry Regiment 171 during the 1940 attack
by the Germans on the Low Countries. The life raft has the names
of the different areas that were involved in the attack by the
171. In the center of the raft is an Iron Cross image
with the date 1940" and on the right I/171".
This ashtray comes with a complete history of Infantry Regiment
171 and is an outstanding item for those who would like to study
the history of this group. The ashtray also makes a great display,
with all of the places named throughout the circumference of the
rafts oval shape. The raft ashtray is in totally perfect
condition and, on the bottom, it has a run number of "5075."
A fine historical artifact here.
Mint. $495.00
POT #26360C HONORARY KEY TO THE BARRACKS OF II A. R. 69
This huge honorary
Key is over ten inches in length and weighs over one pound. The
key is an honorary example for the barracks at Lüttich Kaserne,
which was the home of the Second Artillery Regiment No. 69. This
key is dated 1939 in large, raised out letters, and in the center,
is a raised out mobile swastika. I am not sure of the history
of this barracks, but apparently it represents that of a very
famous regiment, as today, there is a museum there in the town
of Kassel. This key needs to be researched but in the meantime,
it would make a wonderful display with some other Third Reich
artifacts. This key is most impressive. It would look really good
in its own mount with a picture of the apparently famous barracks.
Near Mint. $995.00
POT #17179 ADVERTISING DESK PAPER WEIGHT W/MINIATURE HUNTING CUTLASS ATTACHED - Weyersberg, Kirschberg and Cie.
This item is
a terrific piece originally commissioned by WKC's British distributor
for purposes of decorating a good customer's desk. It was made
sometime during either the Imperial or the Third Reich period,
but impossible to nail down exactly when. As a central feature,
this nickel-plated desk decoration is topped with a knighthead's
facial and breast armor. The details to the knight's armor are
finely hand-done throughout the scaled chin strap, face covering
plate, lobster tail backing and necklace worn about the breast
plate. The knight, of course, represents the logo of W. K. &
C. The knighthead is positioned atop three nickel-plated, pyramid
stacked hollow tubes. The tubes are positioned on a heavily nickeled
rectangular base. The base measures about 5 inches by 3 1/2 inches.
The height to the top of the knight head is approximately 4 1/2
inches high. Applied to the front of the base is a fine miniature
hunting cutlass, to be used as a letter opener. The cutlass is
a high quality item, measuring 7 1/2 inches overall. It has brass
base scabbard mounts with black painted scabbard shell resembling
leather. The cutlass has brass pommel, hoofed up and down crossguard
and fluted clamshell. The grip exactly simulates a stag example,
but is actually a brown and black paint, brass base. The 5 1/2
inch blade is nickel plated showing only nominal age. This single-edged
blade has a fuller running the length. Fine miniature here. The
engravings on this desk piece, though, really tell the story.
The top tube is engraved on either side of the knighthead, "Trade"
and "Mark". Below this is engraved, "August Reichwald/
9 New Broad Street, London E.C.." On the lower tube is engraved,
"Sole representative in/ Great Britain and Ireland for/ Weyersberg,
Kirschbaum & Co,/ Solingen." On the opposite side of
the lower tube is engraved, "Manufacturers of seamless drawn/
steel tubes and cycle fittings/ made of steel only.". Obviously
the tubes here, represent the frames for bicycles produced by
this company. Additionally, August Reichwald apparently handled
hunting/forestry/shooting supplies for British sports enthusiasts.
The name "August Reichwald" is certainly a German name.
Perhaps Mr. Reichwald immigrated to England, or his family did
a generation or two earlier. A really neat accent piece for either
the WKC collector, the collector interested in hunting and forestry
or perhaps, a miniature collector.
POT #19170 DAMASCUS "LETTER OPENER" TYPE KNIFE
The grip of
this example is in the form of a simple knife featuring a mixture
of wood and metal portions with a quillon having swirled ends.
The blade is the main feature. It is a most beautiful Damascus
having all kinds of swirls and twirls. It is kind of a peacock
pattern mixed with a band. Beautiful, high quality piece of Damascus.
The tang is stamped, "Echter Damascener, C.W.", which
is the marking of the 3rd Reich smith, Carl Wester. Looks pre-war,
but since there are no swastikas, impossible to tell the exact
date it was produced. A great-looker, though.
POT #26959C FRENCH MODEL 1840 SABER / BAYONET
This rather
long, French Model sidearm, measures about 28 inches overall in
the scabbard. The hilt section is composed of brass. This brass
grip has been lined to provide a good handhold for the carrier.
There is also a mortise and lock assembly set into the brass,
which appears to be steel. This assembly still works good, and
there is a slot on the spine area, where the entire bayonet would
have fit onto an appropriate French rifle. The bayonet has a beak
design at the pommel, similar to German types. The crossguard
is composed of steel and one side curves downward ending in a
teardrop, whereas the other side is holed, where the rifle barrel
would have gone through the area. Stamped into the surface of
the crossguard is the number 93379. On the obverse
crossguard is stamped the number R871C35. The accompanying
scabbard does not have any numbers on it. This scabbard is of
all steel base, and has been nickel plated. The plating shows
age and some lifting, but overall, considering its age, it is
really not too bad. The blade of this example is a rather nasty
looking thing, which has a slight snake to its shape.
There is a very wide fuller in the blade, and it appears to have
a fairly sharp edge with a tip which points upward. This is a
very serious looking weapon here, and not something you would
want to see coming at you from the front. This blade also shows
age and a slight dulling to its original finish, but overall,
again considering its age I think it is in pretty good condition.
This is a good collectable weapon for those interested in French
militaria.
POT #27199C DECK OF GERMAN PLAYING CARDS
This deck of
German playing cards, I believe are for pinochle, but Im
not sure, as I dont play cards myself. There are no printed
numbers on these cards, just the symbols of spades, diamonds,
etc. Someone has written the numbers on the cards; I guess so
that they could play with them. The cards, though, are still in
the original box, and the writing on the box is all in German,
coming from the town of Altenburg, Thür.. This
would be a nice addition to a uniform grouping, or other memorabilia.
POT #27027 FALLSCHIRMJÄGER DEATH CARD
This Death
Card has the picture of a fallen Fallschirmjäger, whose name
was Wilhelm Kaulmann. This NCO was killed on 1
July 1941 in Krete. The obverse of the card has
other details, and thereverse depicts a grave with helmet over a
cross, and the mans name and death date. A very interesting and
collectible piece of ephemera here.
POT #27026 FALLSCHIRMJÄGER DEATH CARD
This Death
Card has the picture of a NCO, with Luftwaffe double-breasted
tunic and M43-style cap. The man killed was Alfred Feldmeier.
Feldmeier was killed in Italy on 10 December
1943. The obverse of the card has other details, and the
reverse depicts a grave with helmet over a cross, and the mans
name and death date. A very interesting and collectible
piece of ephemera here.
POT #27024 FALLSCHIRMJÄGER DEATH CARD
This Death
Card has the name of Egon Klein, who was a Obergefreiten
in a Fallschirmjäger Regiment. He was killed on 30
January 1942. The front of the card has other details, and
the reverse of the card has a fine photograph of Klein, wearing
an overseas cap with Luftwaffe tunic. A very interesting and
collectible piece of ephemera here.
POT #27023 FALLSCHIRMJÄGER DEATH CARD
This Death
Card is in its original leatherette frame, and would have been
displayed on a mother or widows bureau. The card inside
is still in mint condition. It has the photograph of Hermann
Beutlhauser. Beutlhauser was killed on 15 September
1944, while serving on the Front in Italy. The photograph
depicts Beutlhauser in an overseas cap, with tropical style Luftwaffe
tunic.
POT #27028 FALLSCHIRMJÄGER DEATH CARD
This Death
Card depicts a two-fold approach, having a photograph of the casualty
depicted on the left side. And on the right side, is the name
of the decedent and his particulars. Karl Hartl was
a Fallschirmjäger killed on 21 August 1944. There
is a German poem beneath, and on the other side is a slogan, and
a great looking statue of an Angel dressed as a Knight wielding
a large sword. This is a great looking card here.
POT #27187C FRAMED SILVER WOUND BADGE DOCUMENT
This document
is an off-white manila color, having notebook style two holes
on one side. The document awards the Wound Badge in Silver to
Unteroffizier Otto Selk. Selk was with the 4th Grenadier
Regiment 426. Since he received the Silver Wound Badge, the dates
of his three wounds also appear on the document. The date the
document was issued is May 1st, 1944. It is signed by the Battalion
leader, being a leutenant. A nice item here and with a proper
Silver Wound Badge, would make a nice display.
POT #27090C SET OF FIVE PERIOD PHOTOS
These five
photos are all quite interesting, and they consist of one SA motif,
one from World War I, and three SS photos. To my knowledge, none
of these photos have ever been duplicated. They will make a nice
addition to a photo collection.
POT #27081C AMERICAN WWI HELMET WITH PRINTED INSIGNIA
This World
War I Helmet appears to have lost the original liner inside, but
the chinstrap and related leather is still there, held by a rivet
to the center inner upper area. The leather has the name of the
original wearer written in pencil, C.Van Gieson. The
outside of the helmet has an olive drab paint, which shows quite
a bit of age. This paint is probably about 80%. On either side
of the helmet is an artillery-style shell, painted in a blue color.
The artillery round is positioned between a letter W,
and a circle around the entire depiction. The circle is done in
black paint. I am not familiar with what this is, but it might
make a good display for those of you collecting American World
War I items.
POT #27218C ARMY WEDDING PRESENTATION PLAQUE
This Army Wedding
Presentation Plaque is in full mint condition, and measures approximately
10 ½ inches by 8 ½ inches. It is the standard style
plaque, having the oak backing, which is painted black. The grain
of the oak still shows through nicely, and the edges are all beveled.
The reverse of the plaque has two of the standard triangular-style
hangers, and there are also two round cut out holes, which reveal
the bolts and nuts, which retain the applied brass devices. This
plaque has a bust of an Army soldier profile, wearing a transitional
style helmet. The helmet has the National insignia on the right
side, indicating that it is a Nazi period piece, as there is no
other date on it. The detail to the helmet and the Frankenstein-like
air vent is exceptional. The face chinstrap, uniform collar insignia,
and the shoulder board, with number 23 on it, is just
outstanding. The hasp and buckle to the chinstrap almost look
real, they are so well done. The expression on the face of the
soldier is very pensive, seen from the side. The plaque mount
is of absolute highest quality brass. Below the soldier bust is
a fine brass presentation plaque. The plaque is rectangular, and
then steps in at the bottom to form another small rectangle. At
the top is a series of overlapping oak leaves, and in the center
is a wreath of oak leaves. The presentation is professionally
rendered, with state-of-the art engraving. The dedication is done
in 5 lines, U.lb. Carlo u.seiner Frau/z. Hochzeit/gewidmet/Din
Soldatan Brautführer/Heinrich u. Clamans. This plaque
roughly translates to Given to Carlo and His Wife on their
Wedding Day from their Soldier Best Men Heinrich and Clamans.
The presentation is done in an outstanding manner, and really
is a work of art. This plaque is in a fantastic condition, and
does not appear to ever even been put up on the wall. This is
a fine item to add to the wall of your collecting room. I have
never seen a plaque like it, and it is of absolute highest quality
throughout.
POT #27079C IMPERIAL GERMAN / AUSTRIAN UNITY STEIN
This Unity
Stein comes from the World War I period, and is dated 1914. It
features a likeness of Kaiser Wilhelm, and the Austrian leader
Franz Josef, seating next to one another. The Prussian State Eagle
and the Austrian State Eagle are also side-by-side. The two leaders
are shown within a wreath of oak leaves. Obviously, this stein
commemorated the joining of these two Kings for the World War
I fight. The stein is a gray color, and the wreath is probably
a decal, with green leaf colors and the colors of both countries
with ribbons. The slogan is written across the front, Wir
halten fest und treu zusammen. The stein is quipped with
a fine pewter lid, which features a Prussian Eagle with a Crown
on the opening portion, and the lid itself has an Iron Cross,
which is nicely detailed with a Prussian Crown, the letter W,
and the date 1914. This stein is marked 1/2 liter,
and at the bottom has some initials, as well as a maker signature.
A very nice item in choice condition, and great for display.
POT #27100 SHOOTING BATTALION STEIN
This Shooting
Battalion Stein is a one-liter size, made of a gray-like material.
It is in perfect condition throughout, with a fine pewter lid.
The lid is professionally engraved with the monogram of the original
owner, OE. The engraving is very fancy. The stein
itself, on the face, has the name of the organization and the
town from where they came, Landes-Schützen-Batl. 507/Ingolstadt.
The town of Ingolstadt is not too far from Munich, in Bavaria.
The front of the stein portrays a red, white, and black ring,
within which is a set of oak leaves and acorns, having a 3rd Reich
helmet superimposed. The helmet is shown from the left side, and
portrays the transitional-type style with large air vents, and
a Wehrmacht eagle with swastika below. There is also a brown chinstrap
with buckle, which is very visible. At the bottom of the helmet
is a set of crossed K-98 rifles, and also some sort of an automatic
weapon, that looks to me, like a water-cooled Maxim gun. The detail
is really good throughout this depiction. The stein has a small
narrow rim in red around the top, and a thicker rim around the
bottom. A great display item in complete perfect condition.
POT #27895C LARGE HITLER YOUTH STEEL POLE EAGLE
This very large
eagle appears to have been fashioned out of a piece of solid sheet
steel. The eagle is about 40 inches in wing spread width and about
29 inches in height. By the looks of this bird, he appears to
have been once mounted atop a large pole and possibly signified
the entrance to a Hitler Youth camp all the like. The steel is
about an eight of an inch thick, making this one fairly heavy
bird. I think it weights about 25 or 30 pounds. The bird is positioned
with open wings which are rather stubby and at the ends, come
down in a straight 45º angle. There is little detail to the
ends of the wings, but the area where the bone structure would
be coming off of the birds shoulders is shown with outstretched
portions in the middle. The breast area has feathering and there
are also pushed out areas which simulate these feathers as well
as the birds legs. The birds head is looking to the
viewers right and the beak is half open in a screeching
mode. His eye is almond shaped and gives almost a terodactyl look
to this bird, as he also has a point at the back of his head.
The bird is grasping onto a plain wreath which is round and contains
a floating mobile swastika. The wreath has a series of rivets
which run around its circumference which hold an additional piece
of steel in the same shape at the reverse. This must have given
the bird the strength it needed to sit atop a pole. At the bottom
of the wreath, there is also the remnants of a bracket which was
cut when this steel animal was removed way back when after the
war. The bird has a gold-like paint which has faded to an almost
lighter color tan. This is a great looking monster here, which
would be fantastic in the right room. The back of the animal has
a black coat of paint and there are also signs of some rib markings
here and there. This is the first example of this type of a bird/sign
that I have seen, but, I must say, it is extremely impressive.
For those of you who follow my website, you will know that I really
do like birds and you are going to continue to see lots of unusual
and outstanding original types. This example is most likely one
of a kind. If you are specializing in Hitler Youth, or you just
plain like unusual German eagles, this reptilian-like creature
should really pull your chain.
POT #27145 NSKOV LATE POLE TOP
This NSKOV
Pole Top is of lightweight material, made of all aluminum. It
measures a little over 15 inches overall. The depiction consists
of a wreath of oak leaves, which is open in the center. Placed
through the center area is a Roman broad sword, with a superimposed
Iron Cross, having a mobile swastika in the center. The legs of
the Iron Cross are a black paint, and the background of the swastika
is a red paint. There is age showing to this paint, and some of
it is missing on the surfaces, but overall it rates at maybe 85%
to 90%. The bottom of the wreath has a cylindrical connection,
which is meant to slide over the top of the pole. There a couple
of pre-drilled countersunk holes, which were meant for screw retainage.
The cylinder is stamped with the RZM control M7/27.
A nice looking pole top here, representing the Veterans
Organization, which were wounded while fighting during the rising-to-power
time of Hitler, in the 1920s.
POT #27010 SILVER SHOOTING TROPHY CIRCA 1930
This Silver
Shooting Trophy is of traditional loving cup design, and is produced
from 800 silver. The trophy measures about 13 inches
in overall height, and the diameter at the top is about 4 ½
inches. The inside of this beautiful cup is all gold washed. The
gold wash looks to be mostly all there. The upper portions of
the cup are staged with a flared out rim at the top. This portion
of the cup is in a plain finish. In the center area, there is
a beautiful jeweler engraved wreath of laurel leaves. These laurel
leaves include nice strokes for veining, and also the berries
are in the leaves. At the bottom of the wreath is a beautifully
formed bow. In the center is the purpose of the trophy and the
date it was won, Schützenkönig 1930. This,
of course means Shooting King for 1930. This cup would
have been awarded to the Club champion for that year. The plainness
of the cup, though, completely disappears below the center area.
Here, there are beautiful worked floral designs, which are in
very deep relief. This workmanship is absolutely exquisite throughout.
The lid of the cup also has the same beautiful floral designs
in relief. At the top of the lid is a target-like device, that
has some sort of a weapon featured over both sides. The bottom
of the cup is jeweler hallmarked, along with the silver content
800. Additionally, the number 77607 appears
in the same area. A most beautiful work of art here, as good as
it gets.
POT #20580 HIMMLER DEDICATED & SIGNED ARCHITECTURAL BOOK
This hardback book is
entitled, "Neue Deutsche Baukunst". It measures approximately
9 _-inches by 12-inches format. It consists of 96 pages which
have some fantastic architectural photographs of prominent Nazi
sights. These include great shots of statuary, artwork and buildings
in such places as Munich, Nuremberg, the Reich Chancellery and
also many of the Berlin memorials. The Honor Temples are shown
as is Hitler's personal offices in the F_hrerbau. Lots of neat
things to look at here in the best of black and white photography.
But what makes this book even more interesting, is the fact that
it has a personal dedication by Heinrich Himmler. The first page
has the inked dedication, "SS-Oberf_hrer / Georg Aumeier
/ Mit Meinen Herzlichen Geburtstagsw_nschen". This translates
to, "SS General George Aumeier with my heartfelt wishes for
your birthday". The lettering for this dedication is beautifully
done and probably was rendered by an SS staff artist. Below this,
is the Himmler signature with his closing word in German which
is illegible but means, "yours", and then the "H.
Himmler" signature. Beneath this, is the date of the presentation,
"14 November 1943", which was also written in ink by
the renderer. Obviously Himmler gave this gift to a favorite SS
General for his birthday. It is well known that Himmler kept a
gift list for his upper echelon personnel. SS General Aumeier
must not have rated too high as other SS Generals received gifts
such as Damascus swords, Damascus honor daggers, signed portraits
in silver frames, Persian rugs, etc., etc. This is a fine item,
however, and would make a great edition to any collector's library.
POT #22397 CASED WORLD WAR I GERMAN OFFICER'S FIELD GRAY BINOCULARS
These binoculars
are a fairly small, easy to handle, size. The binoculars measure
4 ½-inches in length and they are finished in an olive
drab military color. The finish is still about 98% and the optics
seem to be in fine condition. There is also a leather strap which
is attached to the binoculars for wear around the neck. The sight
adjustment is marked, "Germany - 08" with a serial number
below, "37525". Below this, is a maker mark, "Schütz
and Company A.G. Cassel". This, to me, indicates that these
binoculars were made in 1908, and at that time, it was mandatory
that goods being exported be marked with the name of the country.
The accompanying case is a fine brown leather which has a strap
on each side with a boss holding the lid closed. There is also
a rectangular closed hardware piece which was riveted for use
of an applied hanging strap. In addition to this, there are belt
loops elaborately made with brass and boss hardware, should the
owner wish to carry these glasses suspended from a belt. The front
of the case is ink-marked in European style letters, "26610".
The maker of the case is stamped on the back, "C.P. Goerz
A.G. Berlin". These fine glasses were definitely made for
the German military, otherwise they would not have the olive drab
color. A good opportunity to acquire something nice from the Great
War.
POT #21761 IMPERIAL NAVAL PORCELAIN PIPE
This fine pipe
measures about 18-inches in length. The lower section is all porcelain
while the upper area appears to have been made out of hickory
wood with the mouth drawing section formed of bake-o-lite. The
hickory section has string and a NCO shaving brush style troddel
wrapped about. The string is in the National colors of red, white
and black, and the shaving brush troddel has a slide of blue,
a stem of brown, a cap of blue felt and the shaving brush area
is white. Obviously, these were the colors worn by naval NCO's
with their Imperial bayonet. The right porcelain section, at the
bottom, contains a custom made, hand painted and fired design.
It indicates that the pipe was given by a brother to his returning
sea faring other brother. It features the Imperial crown at the
center area over a German naval flag and Imperial flag. Beneath
the flags, is a wreath with the remark, "Willkommen / Lieber
/ Bruder". This means, "Welcome home loving brother".
Beneath, is a beautiful painted sailing ship, and surrounding
the scene of the ship, is a well dressed civilian shaking the
hand of a navy man complete in uniform and carrying an oar. Beneath
this depiction is the name of the returning brother, "Theod.
Schoppe". On the back of the pipe are other designs and slogans
which indicate he was with the 2nd Marine Division out of Wilheimshaven
from 1894 to 1897, and served aboard His Majesty's steam ship,
"Wörth". Lots of stuff to look at here on this
fine pipe. The top of the pipe has a closed metal-like device
which covers the fired area. This pipe is complete and is very
collectible for someone interested in Imperial naval items. This
is a rarely seen pipe.
POT #23325 ARMY ISSUE POCKET KNIFE - Alcoso
This pocketknife
measures a little bit over four inches. It has field green color
grip plates attached to the outside case area of this jack knife.
Both sides of the case plates have seven lined segments running
the length and have a type of serrated surface so that the hand
easily grabs hold. These plates are retained by four rivets. There
is a three-inch knife blade that opens from one end and the other
end has a corkscrew and a can opener tool. The knife ricasso is
stamped, Alcoso, Solingen. I believe that these pocketknives
were either issue items or could be purchased in the Army PX.
POT #22815 ARMY GOGGLES IN CASE
These
simple goggles were the type which were worn over the front of
the peaked cap made most famous by Field Marshall Rommel. These
are simple devices with elastic banding and they fold flat. These
goggles are still in their original case. The case looks to have
been made out of Ersatz material. The case is marked on the front,
Bwz, over the number, 7 and in the corner,
is the date they were made, 44. These goggles were
never issued and are perfect for you to put on one of your Africa
Korps hats or the like.
POT #27882 CLOTHING MAKERS ADVERTISING MIRROR
This small,
little pocket mirror measures about 2.5 inches circular. The mirror
itself is in good shape, having a couple of age stains in the
silvering, but nothing serious. The reverse of the mirror is in
metal, having a folded edge which contains the mirror itself.
The backing has a small black border and has a tan color in the
center. Featured at the upper half of the backing is a great looking
pair of lederhosen. The drawing of these leather pants is perfect,
showing all the buttons, stitches, rawhide at the legs, etc. Below
the lederhosen is the name of the producer and his location of
business Josef Stadler/Lederhosen/Berchtesgaden. This
is a nice little item to have around one of your tables to use
as a conversation piece. You could even buy a pair of lederhosen
and brag that you bought it from Herr Stadler!
POT #22616 PAIR OF PORCELAIN VANITY BOXES ATTRIBUTED TO HERMAN GÖRING
These
two little boxes are made of porcelain each being identical and
having a lid which comes off. These boxes appear to be decorative
items which would have been placed on the vanity of perhaps a
guest room and used for storage of small accessory items such
as cuff links, etc. The boxes were brought back from Görings
Berchtesgaten residence by a returning veteran. (I have a letter
from him validating this information.) The lids of these boxes
are equipped with a circular device which acts as a lifting handhold.
Decorating the lids surface is a sword, rifle and flintlock
style pistol. At the front is a spiked helmet. They give the look
of a hunting motif. The box itself has lots of flower style rim
designs with the head of a deer on the obverse area. The boxes
are trimmed with gild, green, and brown colors, most of which
has worn off over the years. On one box, a portion of the rifle
has been broken off and has gone to time. The other box is complete
and in perfect condition. The inner lid is marked, 1944
on one of the boxes. The other example has no markings anywhere.
If you stand back and look at these items, they give the appearance
of little miniature bureaus with mirrors at the top. They are
really quite nice and easy to imagine Göring having as part
of his décor. These boxes are about 5 inches high with
the lid on and about 4 inches wide. They are what they are, and
would be perfect for the right collector out there.
POT #27224 SET OF THREE LEATHER AMMO POUCHES
This set of
leather ammo pouches has surfaces which are heavily grained throughout.
The black leather has straps which have eyelets on the bottom
and they go over bosses to keep the upper flaps closed over the
pouches. The reverse of the ammo pouches has two belt loops which
are retained by metal and rivet sets, and there is also a rectangular
piece of hardware which could be used as a ring for snapping a clip to. These ammo cases are
in good, serviceable condition.
POT #4061 "BOARS WHISKER" HUNTERS HAT PLUME
This hat plume
comes from a hunters hat and is a period piece. The plume
consists of long boars whiskers connected at the end to
a green wool material. There is a Reich cockade attached at the
bottom. The cockade has a red insert made of wool, while the next
ring, instead of being white, is a gold color. The outer ring
is fluted and is the usual black. A great looking thing here,
and could be a real life saver if you are missing this important
decoration from your hunters hut.
POT #27286C IMPERIAL WATCH FOB
This watch
fab is quite beautiful, having what appears to be a low carat
gold or perhaps gold-filled fittings. There are two chains which
are connected to a large round clip where the watch would have
gone. At the end of the two chains on the opposite end is the
pointed end section of a rifle bullet which has had its cap beautifully
decorated with a gold crown and laurel leaf embellishment. Also
attached is a gold framed coin which at the top of the frame has
a pair of oak leaves with a pink color gemstone in the center.
The coin is not something we see too often, being a two-mark coin
depicting Kaiser Friederich. Friederich, unfortunately, only reigned
for 90 days when he died of throat cancer. The reverse of the
coin has a Hohenzollern eagle and below it the fact that it represents
zwei marks. A nice looking item here and very attractive
if you should have a watch from this era to display it with.
POT #27283C LUFTWAFFE SQUADRON PLAQUE DECORATION
This Luftwaffe
squadron decoration depicts a Luftwaffe eagle with swastika mounted
over one die from a pair of dice. The eagle is the
early droop tail type and it is clutching a mobile swastika in
one of his claws. The eagle apparently was made in a machine shop,
probably by one of the members of this particular crew. The swastika
is mounted over the one die which has all of its numbers partially
drilled into the surfaces and the inside area filled with red
paint. The bottom of the die shows an area where this depiction
must have been mounted on some type of a base. It would be an
easy thing to find an appropriate base, either a nice piece of
wood or possibly a piece or marble, and do your own mounting.
It also shouldnt be too difficult to find out which Luftwaffe
squadron this decoration represented. A neat historical item here.
POT #27285C SS BLADE HAVING MOTTO WITH EXCLAMATION POINT - RZM M7/29
This original
blade was produced by the Klittermann & Moog Company. It is
the type that has the exclamation point after the SS motto and,
as most collectors know, is a very desirable example. This blade
is still nice and bright and has much of its original cross graining
visible in the surfaces. There is some mild age, which is very,
very slight, over the surfaces. The one flaw that the blade does
have, however, is that there is a bad pit that is about 2 inches
up from the ricasso on the right reverse edge. This pit is fairly
large, being about a half-inch in round. A little bit of it stretches
onto the edge of the other side of the blade. Apparently, some
acid or some type of destructive material wound up on this blade
somehow. It is a shame, but perhaps with a little work some of
this could be rubbed out and even if it couldnt, it would
still make for the key piece of a very desirable dagger. This
blade is absolutely real and authentic and is identical to the
example I show in my SS book on Page 679, lower. The backgrounds
in the SS etch are at least 98%. The reverse of the blade is matching
etched with the large double RZM circle, the center being shaded.
The circle is positioned over the code M 7/29". This
blade could be displayed just as it is with an SS collection,
or if there is some enterprising craftsman out there, this blade
could be used to build your own exclamation point motto SS dagger.
I can tell you exactly what you need. The parts involved would
be a set of solid nickel cross guards with no group marking on
the reverse. Further, these cross guards are usually internally
marked e.w. The grip should be a standard SS ebony
type with nickel grip eagle. The scabbards on these pieces are
generally found to have a period painted shell with the use of
nickel upper and lower mounts. So there you are, if you can find
these pieces there is no reason why you couldnt have your
own SS exclamation point dagger. These daggers generally sell
in the $5,000. to $6,000. range, so there is your incentive. A
good blade here, if you can do something with the large pit.
POT #27120 & #27266 IMPERIAL PILOTS RING AND LAPEL PIN
Although these
two items came from two separate sources, I think that they should
be sold together. They really make a nice combination. The ring
is a silver example, although I do not see any hallmarks stamped
inside. What is done, though, inside is a beautiful engraving
of the date 5/1/16". These numbers are done extremely
well and are engraved in the European style. I suspect that the
date was probably the graduation day when the original owner was
qualified to fly. The ring portrays a replica of the Imperial
Pilots Badge. It features an Imperial crown over an oval
oak leaf wreath. Inside is an old-fashioned propellor driven plane
cruising over a small village with mountains in the background.
The details to the Pilots Badge are beginning to fade, but
most of them are still visible. The badge is decorated on each
side with a sprig of laurel leaves, complete with two berries.
The ring is a fairly small size and it fits my little finger rather
nicely. Accompanying the ring is a fine lapel pin. This lapel
pin depicts an exact detail replica of the Imperial Pilots
Badge. It is nicely done, appearing to be silver over a brass
base. The pin has some downward cuts in its surfaces to keep it
in place and there is also a locking device which slips over the
bottom. A great looking pair of items here and really nice to
decorate some of your other Imperial Air Korps artifacts, or maybe
you could just wear them on your vest or sport jacket at the Max
Show. Very nice items here.
POT #23967 FIRST DAY ISSUE SS ENVELOPES WITH POLISH GERMAN OCCUPATION STAMPS
These two envelopes
show a little bit of yellowing from age, but I find them quite
fascinating and you will too. Both envelopes are addressed to
SS Stürmführer Alois Hundegger / Dachau B. München
/ Lager F. Baracke 12". The first envelope is written in
black pen and ink and the second envelope is typed with the same
information. Each envelope contains three stamps. These stamps
are Polish stamps which have been printed over with the Nazi open
winged eagle with swastika and, "General - Gouvernemen".
They are further postmarked, "Krakau" and on one envelope
they are dated, "15 10 40" and on the other envelope
the post marks are dated, "02 10 40". It appears that
SS Stürmführer Hundegger, who was assigned to the Dachau
concentration camp in Munich, had an SS friend who was involved
in the Polish campaign taking over the city of Krakau. This SS
friend must have purchased these envelopes with stamps as a first
day issue for his "buddy" at Dachau. These envelopes
and stamps remain in mint condition and I think could be quite
interesting to a stamp collector or an SS collector. I'm sure
that there is enough information here to provide a research project
on this SS Stürmführer. Nice set of items here and highly
collectible.
POT #22919 WORK BOOK TO FACTORY WORKER
This Arbeitsbuch
is issued to "Johannes Sukek" who apparently was some
type of a factory worker. There are many entries in the 1920s
and 1930s along with stampings of company names. The last employment
seems to have been with, "Portland - Cementfabrik Blaubeuren",
indicating that this person may have been a cement worker. The
eagle on the cover is the Reichswehr variety, but all of the pages
have swastikas embossed into their printing. This work book shows
a birthdate of "9.4.14".
POT #23088 LEATHER SHEATH FOR PUMA PARTY DAY KNIFE
This leather
sheath is about nine inches long. It has a slot made for the insertion
of a knife as well as a retaining loop. There is also a section
for the belt to feed through for retainage of this item. The obverse
of the sheath is deeply stamped with the Puma diamond trademark,
having the cat head with firms name below it. At the lower
left edge of the scabbard there is a metal reinforcing section
held by rivets. This metal section is stamped with the patent
number, DRGM NO 1189240. This scabbard would fit the
larger Party Day knives which exist. For instance, there is an
example shown in Johnson Volume 4, page 159 which looks like it
would exactly fit this scabbard/sheath. A great part here for
the right person.
POT #24692 HEAVY COTTON NAVAL FOOD SACK
This Naval
food sack would have been the type of item used to supply food
to battleships as well as submarines. It is definitely a naval
item. It is constructed of a very heavy cotton material and it
measures approximately forty-eight inches by twenty-six inches.
One side of the sack has the printed National insignia consisting
of an open-winged eagle with wreathed swastika. This is a large
format, the eagles wingspan being over twelve inches. There
is also a matching border that runs around the bag obverse. The
reverse has the following three-line printing in large letters
MAR.VERPFLEGUNGSAMT/WILHELMSHAVEN/1942. This translates
to Marine Food Supplies Wilhelmshaven Harbor 1942. Although its
just an old sack, it certainly saw service during World War II
and would make a nice display item for a Naval collecting room.
This sack is in perfect condition with no holes anywhere.
POT #23227 SET OF THREE BROWN LEATHER CARTRIDGE POUCHES
This set of
cartridge pouches is in fine brown leather which may have been
used for Luftwaffe purposes. The three cartridge pouches have
lids which are closed through the use of matching leather straps
which hook to brass bosses below. At the reverse of the pouches
is a large square fitting which would have snapped to a carrying
hook somewhere. These pouches have the letter K marked
on the center example.
POT #20477 IMPERIAL PIONEER RESERVISTS CHINA COMMEMORATIVE CUP
This fine cup
is a white color, having the lip bordered with a gold ring. A
set of dual gold rings appear at the lower base, which is flared
out slightly. This cup is about 5 inches tall, and is not marked
on the bottom. The top depicts a blue background portrait of King
Ludwig III of Bavaria. It also depicts his Excellency Freiherr
von Horn. Positioned between the two bust figures, is a scene
of the garrison town of Ingolstadt. (This town currently houses
a wonderful German Army Museum which is a must if you are visiting
Bavaria.) Beneath the scene of the town is a Bavarian Crown positioned
in the center of a life preserver which has the slogan, in
Treue Fest. In the center are a pair of crossed oars, an
anchor, and a shoulder epaulet with the number 3.
Further on is a roster of the soldiers worth whom this man
served, and his name is included in the roster. Below the roster
is the name of this reservist, Pionier Geiger. This
commemorative cup is in perfect condition, having nice detail
throughout. Setting the decal motif off is a ring of overlapping
oak leaves, which are positioned under the rim of the cup. Perfect
condition here, and a great display item.
POT #24799 SEAL FOR BOX CONTAINING PRISONERS PERSONAL EFFECTS
This small
seal, which appears to be made of zinc, is oval in shape, and
measures two and one-half inches at its wide point and about one
and three quarters inches across the diameter center. The disc
has a raised out, stamped SS eagle which looks to the left. The
eagle is clutching a wreathed swastika and has fairly good detail.
Above the eagle in an arch shape, is the wording, Lager
Kommandantur. Beneath the swastika at the bottom, is the
word Auschwitz. There are also two holes in this
disc; one drilled next to each wing tip. I believe that this
was a seal which would have been string tied or wire tied to the
personal effects boxes containing items which were collected from
prisoners. This is the first item of this nature I have seen,
and it comes from a collector who maintains he has owned it for
many years.
POT #25100 PRUSSIAN FELDJAEGER POLICE OFFICERS GOLD HUNTING CASE POCKET WATCH
This beautiful
pocket watch is made of rose gold which is probably about 14k.
The watch case is hallmarked with an imperial crown and the number
585. The producing companys name also appears
on the case, Cyrus/gt. The watch is serial numbered,
49697. This watch runs fine and keeps very accurate
time. It has a very pretty face which features black Arabic numbers.
At the bottom, is a circular second hand. The minute and hour
hand are of an elaborate gold color, being very pretty. I do
not know a lot about watch workings, but looking into the mechanics
end of the watch, it is again maker marked, and there are four
or five jewels that I can easily see in the movement. When the
reverse case is opened, the inside case is engraved with the Prussian
Feldjäger Police eagle. This eagle has open wings with a
swastika at its breast. The eagle carries lighting bolts in one
claw and a sword in the other. The Prussain Feldjäger eagle
was the logo used by Herman Göring, when he originally formed
this police unit. Their purpose was to help standardize the police
into a national organization after Hitler came to power. Obviously,
this watch must have been owned by a high ranking official of
the Feldjäger police. This watch is very beautiful in its
rose gold color. It comes in the original case, which is cut
out to receive the watch, having a beige felt covering. The inside
lid contains the calling card of the purported original owner
Karl Krämer. The mans address is also
listed, so there might be enough here to do some research to see
if this man was indeed a high ranking official in the Feldjäger
Corps. The outside of the watch box has an imitation, turtle-like
shell pattern. In the center, is also another Prussian police
eagle with swastika impressed in gold. A line below the bird
has the area, Saargruben, and below this, are crossed
miner style hammers. The box shows a little bit of usage, but
overall, it is still in good condition. This is a very beautiful
piece of jewelry and could be an outstanding centerpiece for a
Police collection. The Feldjäger Corps was dis-banned about
1936, and there are few items remaining which belong to these
original policemen who worked under Herman Göring. These
were the policemen who originally formed the Gestapo. A great
opportunity to add a centerpiece to a collection.
This table
display sword item is one of the most unique artifacts I have
seen or handled over the years. It is a most interesting piece,
and I feel that it would have been awarded to a music meister,
or perhaps to someone who was the leader of a Regimental band.
There is a base which has been gilded to support a Model 89 sword
hilt. It is equipped with blade measuring approximately twelve
inches long, having etched motif with blue and gold panel. The
sword hilt is a beautiful Model 89 Infantry type, having very
fine, extra embellished fittings with folding obverse clam shell.
The pommel has beautiful raised out designs which flow to floral
patterns at the short back strap. The images have random pebbling
in the backgrounds, and most of the gilt remains throughout this
upper pommel area. The D guard is a typical variety,
having an opening at the bottom curved area. It features raised
floral designs in the surfaces. The obverse clam shell depicts
the Prussian eagle with crown. This bird is clutching a scepter
and sword in each of his claws respectively, and he has the cipher
of the Emperor WII raised out at his chest. The depiction
is positioned horizontally across the clam shell. The grip is
a beautiful blue sharkskin which is in perfect condition and is
wrapped with triple twisted silver wire, the center being a larger
dimension. There is a cipher applied to the center of this sharkskin
grip. It portrays the Kaisers initials WR over
II. There is a Prussian crown above the initials.
Mounted to the hilt is a double etched blade which features panels
on both blade sides. The reverse panel portrays a series of floral-like
designs. These designs conform to an Eickhorn standard blade
etching which is shown in their catalog as being Model No. 3240.
It is also interesting to note that this blade has the etching
of the Carl Eickhorn logo used from 1935-41, being the squirrel
holding a downward pointing sword. The firms slogan original
appears over the animal, and below, is the firms name and
location, Eickhorn Solingen. This logo has a fine,
frosted background. The designs throughout the sword blade are
extremely nice and have frosted backgrounds. This blade shows
a little bit of minor age, but overall, it is still in easily
Excellent Plus condition. The obverse blade is really interesting.
It, again, repeats the motif of the etch pattern No. 3240, but
in the center area there is a panel which depicts musical notes
as though on a score sheet. Below the notes, are depicted the
words to the song. The notes have gilding in their backgrounds
and the entire panel has been blued. Unfortunately, the panel
shows some age, but it must have been spectacular when it was
brand new. The gilding still appears to be in the backgrounds,
however. The German words to the song are done in a fine engraving
which is still quite legible. This beautiful blade is capped
off at the end with a Prussian crown, which is finished on both
sides. The crown depicts a cross with open finials below and
has three diamond-like raised out images around the lower band.
This beautiful, gilded crown nicely matches the gilt to the hilt
below. A very eye catching thing here, which must have been a
valued artifact to the musician to whom it was presented. This
would be the perfect desk piece for someone interested in military
musical instruments as well as swords.
