MEDALS & BADGES -- Part V

MEDALS - 388 - 26281 – DRL SPORTS BADGE

This Sports badge is of all brass construction, having a fine, vaulted look. It consists of an oval wreath composed of overlapping oak leaves. At the bottom is a mobile swastika. At the pierced center of the oval is a set of intertwined initials “DRL”. On the reverse of the badge, there is the raised out numbering “DRGM35269”. Additionally, there is a maker mark “Hensler”. A good, solid example here.
Excellent Plus. $95.00

MEDALS - 389 - 26280 – SA SILVER SPORTS BADGE

This silver Sports badge is a fine example. It shows only normal age, but most of the silvering is all there, rating at least 98%. The badge depicts a round, open wreath formed of oak leaves. Positioned vertically over the wreath is an upward pointing Roman style broad sword. The sword lays over a mobile swastika. The reverse of the badge has a barrel hinge, pin and catch. The maker name is raised out of the reverse “W Redo SA Fuhrung Saar”. There is also other lettering, but I am sure you get the picture. A nice silver Sports badge.
Near Mint. $195.00

MEDALS - 390 - 26274 – ARMY FLAK BADGE DENAZIFIED

This Army Flak badge, unfortunately, has had the swastika filed off the bottom of the closed-wing Wehrmacht eagle. It is, however, an original example and should be of value to perhaps a collector on a budget out there. The badge is composed of a zinc base oval having oak leaf and acorn decoration running around the surfaces. In the center of the open area, there is positioned an “88” cannon. The details to the cannon are fantastic throughout. The reverse of the badge is marked “R.S.” in capital letters and raised out. There is a little bit of pimpling in the silvered surfaces on the reverse. The badge has a straight pin with cup hook.
Excellent Plus. $195.00

MEDALS - 391 - 26273 – EARLY LUFTWAFFE FLAK BADGE

This Flak badge is of earliest construction, having beautiful silvered finish. It is about as fine of a piece as you will see. The badge consists of an open ovaled wreath which has overlapping oak leaves running throughout its surface. At the top is a Luftwaffe eagle which is flying to the viewer’s right. The feathering to the wings, breast and tail is outstanding. The details are also still on the bird’s head area and talons. This bird clutches an open mobile swastika. At the bottom is positioned a highly detailed 88 cannon. The cannon is shooting off to the right with its barrel at about the two o’clock position. I cannot overstate the excellent detail throughout this badge’s surfaces. The reverse of the badge has a straight pin and cup hook on a barrel hinge. It is marked “Bremmer, Markanew, Kirchen”. A high quality badge, with a maker I never heard of.
Near Mint. $550.00

MEDALS - 392 - 26277 - NAVAL MINESWEEPER BADGE

This is a late-produced Minesweeper badge. It is of a zinc base and, unfortunately, there is little to no gilding left in the surfaces. The badge depicts an oval wreath that has overlapping oak leaves and acorns running throughout its surfaces. At the top is an open-winged Naval eagle which clutches a mobile swastika. In the lower center of the badge, there is a resemblance of wavy water with an explosion bursting upward toward the Naval eagle. Pretty good detail throughout this bade, and it is a shame that there is none of the gold color left. The reverse has a barrel style hinge with a brass coke bottle pin and cup hook. There is no maker.
Excellent Minus. $125.00

MEDALS - 394 - 26276 - NAVAL HIGH SEAS FLEET BADGE

This High Seas Fleet badge is a later-produced example, being of a zinc base. Most of the original gilt has worn from the metal, but there is still a small amount remaining here and there. There is enough to see that it certainly had it in the past. The badge has an oval wreath which is decorated with overlapping oak leaves throughout the surfaces. At the top of the oval is an open-winged Naval eagle which clutches a swastika. In the center area of the open wreath is a battleship heading straight at the viewer plowing through the waves. The details are outstanding throughout the ship and the guns, portholes and five windows are completely visible. The reverse of the badge has a barrel hinge with straight pin and cup hook. It is unmarked.
Excellent. $325.00

MEDALS - 395 - 26278 - NAVAL COSTAL ARTILLERY BADGE

This badge is the late made zinc type. There are only minor amounts of gilt that remain throughout the wreath. I would say there is only about 5%. The badge consists of an oval open design being decorated with overlapping oak leaves. At the top of the oval, there is a closed-wing Wehrmacht eagle which clutches a swastika. In the center of the badge is a large gun which would have been positioned on an embankment on the sea coast. The details to the gun are still exceptional. The reverse of this zinc badge has a brass barrel hinge with straight brass pin and cup hook. It is not marked.
Excellent. $125.00

MEDALS - 396 - 26314 - IRON CROSS 2ND CLASS WITH RIBBON

This Iron Cross shows good, dark patination over the silvered areas and the serrations are still nice and crisp. The black painted areas are in good condition throughout with just a slight amount of thinning on the raised swastika on the obverse center. The lower leg has the date “1939" and on the reverse, there is the date of the inception of the Iron Cross “1813". The ring is stamped with the maker number “27". There is a fine ribbon attached, being the colors of red, white and black. A good, original 2nd Class Iron Cross. Near Mint. $140.00

MEDALS - 397 - 26315 - IRON CROSS 1ST CLASS

This Iron Cross still has its nice, bright, silvered finish to the legs and the serrations are crisp throughout. All of the black surface is there, being 100%. The mobile swastika in the center is highly vaulted, as is the date on the bottom leg “1939". The reverse of the cross is also bright throughout, having a barrel hinge with coke bottle style pin. This cross is unmarked and it also is one of the types that has a non-magnetic center. It is definitely an original example, however, and it can be clearly seen throughout the leg surfaces where the two halves have been positioned and soldered together. A very fine example here. Mint. $495.00

MEDALS - 399 - 26312 - IMPERIAL U-BOAT BADGE

This U-Boat badge is in exceptional condition and is the large style. The details throughout are crisp. The badge is quite heavy and appears to be made of solid brass. There is an Imperial crown at the top of an ellipse wreath. This wreath is composed of laurel leaves overlapping and having ribbon ties every so often. At the center of the opening of the wreath, there is an Imperial U-boat. The details are exceptional throughout the mountings atop the U-boat. On the reverse, there is a horizontal brass straight flat pin with barrel hinge and cup hook. At the bottom area, there is the maker mark “Walter Schot” and below this the word “fec”. This is an outstanding original example and is very difficult to locate anymore.
Near Mint. $995.00(#122907)

This War Merit medallion is about the size of a fifty-cent piece. It is struck in bronze and on the obverse, features a War Merit Cross raised out. On the reverse of the medallion is the four-line purpose of the medal “Für/Kriegs-/Verdienst/1939". Attached to the ring above is an extra-long ribbed satin ribbon. This Spanish Blue Division medal is round and is about the size of a fifty-cent piece. On the obverse, it depicts a shield with Wehrmacht eagle and swastika on one side and a shield with the Spanish gathering of arrows on the other side. These two shields are positioned over a long Roman-like sword. A German helmet is over top of both shields and at the bottom is an immobile swastika surrounded by laurel leaves. On the reverse, the purpose of the medal is raised out in six lines Division/ Espanola/De /Voluntarios /En/Rusia”. At the bottom is a floral design over an Iron Cross. This medal has a gray color to it throughout. Attached to the loop is the proper ribbon. It is ribbed satin and has a yellow stripe in the center with red, white and black stripes going out on both sides. These Spanish Blue medals are not that easy to find.

MEDALS - 404 - 26289 - ENTRY TO CZECH WITH RIBBON AND CASTLE BAR

This Entry to Czechoslovokia medal is about the size of a fifty-cent piece and it is struck in a fine quality bronze. The coin medallion depicts two naked men holding flags. In the center is the date the Nazis entered Czechlslovokia “1 Oktober 1938". Attached to the medallion is the original ribbon and castle bar. The ribbon has a red center with black stripe on each side. At about the half-way point is a rectangular matching bronze box which depicts the castle which is situated over the city of Prague. This 2nd Class Iron Cross is in good condition, showing mild usage. The legs have good silvering and fairly crisp serrations. There is some mild lifting to the black paint on both sides of the cross. The lifting, though, is an obvious sign of age and does not look bad. The center area has a good vaulted mobile swastika with “1939" date below. The reverse has the date of inception “1813". The ring is not marked, but the original ribbon is there. This ribbon is ribbed and is red in the center with white and black stripes. A good display example.

Mint Minus. $150.00

MEDALS - 435 - 26194C - 2ND CLASS SPANGE WITH IMPERIAL IRON CROSS AND RIBBON

This spange medal with its ribbon and award is most impressive and is completely untouched. It looks as though it was just taken off of the original solider’s uniform. It consists of an Imperial iron cross which has toned completely black throughout. (There must be quite a bit of silver in this cross for it to attain such a dark tone). The center black area all looks to be there and the serrations are still relatively crisp. The obverse features the raised out “W” in the center with a Prussian crown above and the “1914" date below. On the reverse, there is the Prussian crown over the letters “FW”. In the center is the sprig of oak leaves, and the lower leg has the date of inception of the Iron Cross “1813". The accompanying ribbon is a satin ribbed type, having a black center with white and black stripes which run on both sides. Attached to the ribbon with prongs is an outstanding silvered Second Class spange. This shows an excellent detailed eagle with shorter wings looking to the viewer’s right. The feathering and detail throughout the head is quite beautiful. This bird clutches a large wreath with raised out mobile swastika. The wreath is almost the same diameter as the bird. The wreath is positioned above a plaque with edges that are slanted on a 45-degree angle. The plaque has the date “1939" raised out. An outstanding medal here, and something that you do not see too often.
Excellent Plus Plus. $495.00

MEDALS - 436 - 26193C - KUBAN SHIELD FOR LUFTWAFFE

This Kuban shield has a fine, golden tone throughout its surfaces. There is also some darker age in the lower areas which gives it a great look. It is not magnetic, indicating it is most likely stamped of brass. The upper eagle has outstretched wings and looks to the viewer’s right, clutching a swastika. Next to the wreath is the date “1943". Below this is the block-lettered name of the shield “Kuban”. Beneath this are the illustrated steps of Russia with the different names of the towns where the German Army had advanced. This depiction is installed on a gray wool background, indicating it was meant for the Luftwaffe. The original green backing paper is still in place. A good looking shield here. Near Mint. $225.00

MEDALS - 438 - 26192C - 2ND CLASS IRON CROSS WITH ORIGINAL PACKET AND TISSUE PAPER

This Iron Cross still resides in its original issue packet. The packet shows some age and couple of minor tears, but it is still all there. It is a manilla color and has the three-line wording on the obverse “Eisernes Kreuz/II. Klasse/1939". Inside is a pristine Iron Cross which is perfect throughout. Accompanying the Iron Cross is its original ribbon which is still in the tissue paper and does not appear to have ever been removed. A nice set here, which would be great for display.
Near Mint. $225.00

MEDALS - 447 - 25948 - SS 8-YEAR SERVICE MEDAL WITH RIBBON IN ORIGINAL ISSUE BOX

The issue box of this medal is a dark blue textured cardboard. It has a set of silver SS runic symbols on the center top of the lid. The corners are broken on this box and the top end piece of the box is gone to time. The inside lid as well as the inside of the box itself have been gray velvet lined. On the bottom of the box, there is a separation which accommodates and separates the medallion medal from the ribbon. The medallion is about the size of a fifty cent piece. It is struck in fine brass. The brass is darker in the backgrounds than it is on the highlights of the medallion. On the obverse, it features an immobile style swastika. Superimposed at the center of the swastika is a overlapping oak leaf wreath with SS runes raised out in the middle. The reverse of the medallion has a number “8" in the center area raised out. Superimposed over the “8" is the four-line inscription which is the purpose of the medal “FÜR/TREUE DIENSTE/IN DER/SS”. Attached to the medallion is a pear-shaped ring which contains the ribbon. The ribbon is ribbed blue satin. This medal and ribbon appear to be in mint condition. A fine, original SS service medal with issue box.

MEDALS - 451 - 26310 - IMPERIAL WWI BLACK WOUND BADGE

This black Wound badge is the oval design having overlapping oak leaves which run throughout the border. Inside is a set of crossed swords with a large Imperial helmet superimposed over the swords.
