KINDERSABEL SECTION
Kindersabels were a popular item during the turn-of-19th century
period when Germany was at the height of their militaristic society.
It was expected the sons of officers would follow in their father's
footsteps, so often young boys were dressed in military uniforms
emulating those of their fathers. The child's dress uniform was
completed with an edged weapon known as a Kindersabel. (Child's
sword) These small swords are generally not the quality of their
large counterpart (some are, however), but they are of high quality
and are anything but toys. They are highly collectible artifacts.
KD5 - CHILD'S MODEL 1851 NICKEL CAVALRY BASKET HILT W/ TRIPLE-ETCHED
BLADE - No Maker.
The hilt of
this fine example is nickel-plated, and is in the form of the
1851 Model Cavalry style, featuring a tiered basket design. The
nickel plating remains nearly perfect. The grip is a perfect-conditioned
sharkskin. It is wrapped with double twisted silver wire. The
curved scabbard is a nickel-plated example having two carrying
bands and rings. This scabbard is a beauty, reflecting near 100%
plating and highest quality. The triple etched blade is 18 inches
long, being the same quality as the large counterpart. This blade
has a fuller which runs the length, and is nickel-plated over
the etch. The etch is a floral and military theme mix, featuring
a Prussian eagle on the obverse. The spine has little flowers
which run nearly the length. Highest quality here. Overall length
is 23 1/2 inches. It was indeed a lucky little fellow who got
to play with this sword a century and a half ago - nice.

KD6 - CHILD'S MODEL 1851 NICKEL BASKET SABER - No Maker.
The basket
hilt of this example reflects a nickel finish showing some age,
but still pretty good plating - looks like it was cleaned up maybe
fifty years ago. The grip is a fine sharkskin still in perfect
condition. The grip is wrapped with double twisted silver wire.
The nickel scabbard is curved quite dramatically - looks great.
The nickel finish shows a little minor deterioration, but still
rates good and is not noticeable. There is a minor dent in the
obverse about 2/3's down. The scabbard is equipped with dual carrying
bands and rings. The 20 1/2 inch curved blade is a beauty, having
the "scimitar" look - great stuff here. It is quality
nickel plated, having a factory blunted tip. This blade has a
fuller which runs about 3/4's of the way down. This desirable
blade is in near full mint, bright condition. The overall length
is 27 inches.
Excellent Plus (006) $ 295.00
