HITLER YOUTH LEADER SECTION

The Hitler Youth Leaders were professionals in charge of the training and NSDAP education of the German Youth. They wore a special dagger consisting of silvered hilt fittings with blue-black leather-covered scabbard. The grip was composed of tightly wrapped silver wire, over a wood base. The pommel cap featured an HJ diamond on top, complete with swastika. The upper scabbard fitting portrayed an open-winged Hitler Youth eagle with swastika cut into the bird's chest. The blade was etched with the Hitler Youth motto, Blut und Ehre!.

HYL - 001 - 27146 Hitler Youth Leader RZM M7/36 (E. & F. Hörster)

This Hitler Youth Leader shows some age and usage, but it is all there, and in collectable condition. The hilt section features the silver plated pommel cap, which at the top, has a raised-out Hitler Youth diamond. The diamond is lined throughout its inside areas, and in the center, has a raised out mobile swastika. The edges of the pommel cap are decorated with twin decorative lines and roped designs. The cap is retained by two brads, one in each side. The silvering throughout this cap appears to be all there. The ferrule below has just one decorative line running around its surfaces. Most of the silvering is starting to lift from this ferrule, and it has about, maybe, 25% retaining around the point where it meets the crossguard. The crossguard is the standard aluminum type, having plain upper and lower surfaces, and tilting upward on the ends just slightly. The squared edges are decorated with rope-like lines, matching the pommel cap. Most of the silvering is gone from this crossguard. The grip consists of fine silvered wire, which is twisted around a wood base. The silver wire is slightly loose, but none of it is overlapping, and it is all there. The scabbard of this example is straight throughout. As we know in the hobby, these scabbards are a solid piece of metal, which simulate upper, center, and lower fittings, by the fact that the area in between is indented and leather covered. The silvering throughout this scabbard is still in choice condition. The upper fitting portrays the Hitler Youth eagle, which is grasping a sword in one claw, and a hammer in the other. This bird has a swastika engraved on his breast. Below the bird is rope-like designs. There is also a plain eyelet, with silvered ring. The center ramp is decorated with rope designs, and also has a plain silvered eyelet and ring. The lower fitting has the same rope decorations, and it is in nice perfect crisp condition. The original leather has its good blue-black color surfaces, and fine grain throughout. This leather has no cuts or problems, and is in perfect condition. The blade of this example is a fine nickel plated type. The surfaces are still nice and bright, and other than some minor in-and-out usage signs, the blade is in near mint condition. Its original needle-like tip is intact, and the center segment of the obverse is etched with the Hitler Youth motto, “Blut und Ehre!”. The reverse ricasso is etched in the center segment with an open double circle, having RZM inside. Beneath this is the code, “M7/36”, for the E. & F. Hörster Co. The original brown leather blade washer is in place. This is a fine original Hitler Youth dagger, which is not in perfect condition, but with the way the prices are going on these pieces, it is very collectable and is priced accordingly. Excellent, Plus (27146) $3,895.00
